WWE ECW 181

November 24, 2009 – Bridgeport, Connecticut

Shelton Benjamin def. Zack Ryder {Number One Contender Match}
This was quite a bit better than previous matches between these two. Ryder got to look good, though his enthusiasm got the better of him as he’d go for high-risk moves and eat shit for it. Benjamin just kept plugging away until hitting Paydirt for the win at 8:48 (shown). Christian comes out after the match to congratulate Benjamin on his win and challenge him to a ladder match at the first ever TLC PPV. Christian actually acknowledges that the ECW title hasn’t been on recent PPVs, which kind of blows my mind. Benjamin is into it, and they’re both babyfaces apparently. It’s hard to track whether Benjamin is good or bad from week to week, but the story here is that they want to steal the show and bring some glory to ECW, so it’s good that they’re both heroes. **¾

Vance Archer def. Alex Reynolds
Archer wins with the inverted DDT at 2:31. N/A

Matt Hardy is a guest on the Abraham Washington Show. Hardy gets the better of Washington as they trade insults. Washington is either sick or just tired of the show and he ends it early. I’m not mad at ending it early. What even was that? Hardy isn’t on ECW, and they didn’t promote anything coming up. So weird.

Yoshi Tatsu def. William Regal
After getting beat up for two minutes, Tatsu catches Regal with the Saikyou High Kick for the win at 2:15. Hardly a match. Regal speaks sternly to his cornermen after the match. Vladimir Kozlov blames Ezekiel Jackson for Tatsu’s win, so Jackson hits Kozlov with the uranage. Then he hits Regal with the uranage. Alright then. ½*
