August 22, 2018 – Brooklyn, New York
Bianca Belair def. Deonna Purrazzo
This started out pretty strong but then fell apart quickly. This was a tale of two Biancas; a competent one up front, and one that didn’t seem to know what she wanted to do for most of the match. *¾
EC3 is asked about who he thinks attacked Amsterdam Black and he more or less implicates Lars Sullivan.
Ricochet brags about his win over Adam Cole for the North American title. He’s approached by Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly, but Pete Dunne strolls up and backs up Ricochet. Ricochet thanks him, but Dunne makes it clear that he wants the North American title as well as his UK title. In the meantime, they’ll all fight in a tag match next week.
Jesus Cross is shown in security cam footage observing the attack on Black.
Shayna Baszler cuts a pissy promo complaining that about her loss to Kairi Sane. This is notable for her having Ronda Rousey, Jessamyn Duke, and Marina Shafir backing her.
Pete Dunne def. Zack Gibson {WWE United Kingdom Championship}
Before the match, NXT UK gets a trailer but not a release date. What a tease. I wonder if they’ll rebrand this title the NXT UK Championship. On the one hand, this was a little less epic feeling than their match in England. On the other hand, there was less indy bullshit in this match than there was in the first, and the indy bullshit that was in this was more entertaining. Back on that first hand, Gibson just looked like an idiot for that finish, focusing on Dunne’s mouth-guard and getting pinned for it. But back on the second hand, the rest of the final third of the match, including Gibson’s submission attempt and Dunne escaping by biting the bottom rope, was brilliant. All in all this was just a hair better than their first match and give me NXT UK already! ****
