Wolfgang def. Sam Gradwell {Heritage Cup Rules Quarterfinal Match}
Gradwell gets a few cheap shots in during a slow first round. He works Woflgang’s arm through a slow second round. The final 30 seconds of that arm had absolutely no action, which the commentators are forced to mention. Gradwell hits an STO to win the first fall in 24 seconds of the third round. This is so bad. Wolfgang suplexes Gradwell into a cutter to win his first fall at 1:49 of the fourth round. He wins the match with a spear at 1:19 of the fifth round. Things picked up a little with Wolfgang in control, but I was already in such a bad mood because of how crap everything before that was. *½

Blair Davenport has been suspended for attacking Sid Scala. I wonder if that has anything to do with Will Ospreay’s COVID diagnosis. Next week, Gallus will fight for the tag titles, and Noam Dar will take on Kenny Williams in the next round of the Heritage Cup tournament. Then, I get Letterkenny vibes from Gallus’s hallway celebration and subsequent encounter with Jordan Devlin. Joe vs. Devlin could be fun. I also like Devlin not being so goddamn serious all the time. Later, Stevie Turner thinks she can beat Meiko Satomura when given another chance. Emilia McKenzie thinks Turner should fight through her before getting a rematch. Turner waits for McKenzie to walk away before talking trash.

Saxon Huxley, Oliver Carter & Ashton Smith def. Eddie Dennis, Primate & T-Bone
I wouldn’t kick this match out of bed for farting. The good guys did exciting stuff and the bad guys did dastardly stuff. That’s what you want from a midcard six-man tag. Smith & Carter hit Primate with a Doomsday Cutter for the win at 9:03. I have no idea where they go from here, but they’ve done a solid job making Huxley and Carter more interesting than they were two months ago. ***

The show wraps with a replay of WALTER vs. Ilja Dragunov from Takeover 36, with various non-American wrestlers providing a bit of commentary. My thoughts on that match are in line with everyone else’s. I get that this is airing here so that Brits who watch this show on terrestrial TV who don’t have Peacock can watch it, and I say good for them. But bad for me because I’ve seen it. Somewhat related rant: I remember back when this brand had their first or second Takeover event, and the trolls over at Voices of Wrestling spammed Twitter over and over claiming that nobody was talking about it and nobody would watch it. Of course, just by tweeting that they were defeating their own argument. But what wasn’t true then is certainly true now, as even though the title just changed hands in this terrific match that people actually did see, this show is and has been frozen in place since its hiatus. I’m tempted to stop reviewing it as of today, but I’m going to keep going because I have a hunch it won’t exist by the end of 2022. Might as well see it through its end.
