Kay Lee Ray def. Ember Moon
What the crap? I did not expect this to be good. Moon clearly came to play, even going so far as to SPIN MOVE the ref to get an illegal kick in on KLR. A couple slow and/or awkward moments aside, this after a fight over a pin, KLR lifted Moon into the Gory Bomb for the win at 11:10 (shown of 14:40). ***¼
We get a look at Indi Hartwell’s engagement party. It’s filled with meta jokes. Well, some of these things resemble jokes. Candice LeRae has turned the corner and embraces Hartwell’s relationship now. They decide to spy on Dexter Lumis’s bachelor party.
Santos Escobar def. Carmelo Hayes
This is a classic nobody-should-lose situation. So they do what WWE always does in that situation (and so many other situations), they do a scribbly scrabbly finish that makes the match feel meaningless. Though the match wasn’t lighting the world on fire anyway. And that’s probably good, because climate change is scary enough as it is. Anyway, Elektra Lopez hit Hayes with a bodyslam on the floor, and then despite recovering for it, Hayes walked right into Escobar’s Phantom Driver. That was enough to end the match at 6:48 (shown of 10:15). **1/4
Malcolm Bivens introduces us to the Kreed brothers. Then, William Regal says the number one contender will be decided in a fatal four way match next week between Kyle O’Reilly, LA Knight, Pete Dunne, and Tommaso Ciampa.
Julius Creed & Brutus Creed def. Chuckie Viola & Paxton Averill
Now that WWE has fired all the undercard NXT guys and Performance Center dudes, they’re back to using local talent to do jobs. Anyway, the Creeds look good here. Julius hits Averill with a kneeling lariat for the win at 2:16 after a bunch of suplexes. N/A
Ember Moon doesn’t like how losing feels, but we’ll have to stay tuned to find out what she’ll do about it. Did they hear that I want to stop reviewing this show? Hit Row cuts a promo from the studio, but they STILL aren’t announcing a North American Championship defense.
Io Shirai & Zoey Stark def. Kayden Cross & Kacy Catanzaro {NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship Match}
This is the champs’ first defense and first match since winning the titles two months ago. The amount of time that has passed since this angle started makes it feel really off that Shirai is still wrestling like a stranger to Stark. Most of this match was a snooze, but the last couple of minutes were fun. I like the KCs new finisher, though it’s sad that the first time they used it they didn’t get a win off of it. Shirai hit Catanzaro with the moonsault for the win at 4:59 (shown of 8:23). Gigi Dolin, Jayden James and a protective mask-wearing Mandy Rose attack the KCs after the match. **1/4
O’Reilly cuts a promo about going after Samoa Joe when he wins next week’s match, though it’s pretty clear he’ll be feuding with Knight and the Joe match will go to Dunne. Later, Robert Stone secures a title shot for Frankie Monet next week.
I’m embarrassed to say I giggled when, at the Lumis bachelor party, the (Canadian) zombie ref appeared in the limo. But then I got mad that Cameron Grimes, who is bankrolling the party, didn’t get scared when he saw him. I do like that they addressed that Lumis and Grimes used to have beef. Gargano, Odyssey Jones, and Drake Maverick we’re also there. Lumis and Gargano bonding was kinda cute. It’s a little cringey, but at least half a step up from a BTE skit.
Mei Ying def. Virginia Ferry
Ying won in 49 seconds with the choke takedown thingy. They don’t show a replay. Why are they bothering with this gimmick? They clearly have no faith in Ying or Boa. N/A
Knight and Ciampa cut promos about next week too. I wonder if and what Ciampa will have to do after that match.
Nash Carter & Wes Lee def. Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan {NXT Tag Team Championship Match}
You get the sense that the crowd is tired after watching six hours worth of wrestling in this taping set, as they’re quite quiet for this match. This was good but didn’t blow my butt off of the couch. In particular, MSK hit their Hart Attack neckbreaker for the win at 9:50 (shown of 12:18) completely out of nowhere. After the match, Dunne and Ridge Holland turned on Lorcan & Burch. Well that makes me think that maybe Ciampa is winning next week and Dunne will do something in the tag ranks. This was probably the right time to make this move, as the bald boys were being cheered throughout the match. ***
