NXT UK 151

June 3, 2021 – Newham, London

Ilja Dragunov def. Noam Dar
Great stuff here. Dar’s targeting of the knee made him look great, and Dragunov was game to make that convincing. This didn’t so much play into the triggered Dragunov narrative, though now Dragunov appears to just get Bushwacker crazy after enough time has passed. He hit the Torpedo Moskau out of nowhere for the win at 13:38. The finish felt very abrupt and not so appropriate for this match. ***½

Reminder: Aoife Valkyrie exists. Then, Jordan Devlin is back and he’s a primadonna with an earring now. He wants a spot on the Supernova Sessions ASAP. Later, Tyler Bate gets existential while training near his Heritage Cup. Later still, WALTER returns next week. Can we get to him vs. Dragunov already?

Sam Stoker & Lewis Howley def. Jack Starz & Nathan Frazer {NXT UK Tag Team Championship Match}
This was totally fine, just fine. Frazer is an exciting choice for a mystery opponent, but this match never even really teased that Pretty Deadly would lose the titles. They hit Spilled Milk on Starz for the win at 7:18.  **¾

Joseph Conners def. Flash Morgan Webster
Given that we know the main event, we’re officially two weeks in a row without a women’s match. I wrote this off the moment that the referee got in Webster’s way when he was going for a dive so that Webster could dive over him. I despise when referee’s become a part of the match in ways that don’t make sense. Why not just have Webster do the dive over him without the whole bit where the ref tells him not to? Why would the ref tell him not to at all? I’m out. Jinny knocked Webster off the top rope and Conners hit a neckbreaker for the win at 5:04. *½

Joe Coffey def. Rampage Brown
I just went back and looked at my review of their first match and found that I wanted to see a rematch immediately. Four months later I got it and I liked the first one better. This did a lot of the same things, but Brown being on defense for the whole match made this feel less epic than the first. It also somehow felt shorter than their first match but was about the same length. It just didn’t feel as big or important. It was solid, but it wasn’t great. Coffey hit AwRaBestFurThaBells for the win at 11:37, and you have to assume there will be a rubber match. They shake hands after the match and tease just that. I’d guess a Last Man Standing match based on this brand’s history. ***¼

Dragunov comes out to stare at both guys. With WALTER coming back next week it seems pretty clear this is setting up a contender match. They should have just had Brown win here to fight Dragunov because Dragunov has already beaten Coffey. And while I’m complaining, next week should just be an all women’s show (the main event is already Kay Lee Ray vs. Meiko Satomura) to make up for the fact that there have been no women’s matches in weeks.
