NXT 619

May 4, 2021 – Orlando, Florida

It’s a shame that the Mysterios won’t be showing up tonight.

Isaiah Scott def. Leon Ruff {Falls Count Anywhere Match}
Scott did not appear to be careful with Ruff’s body early on here, dropping him high on his shoulders more than once. I really liked their little match from a few weeks ago, and this banger too. I don’t know who AJ Francis is (because he’s a football player, I learned later, and I’m useless in that department) and I don’t like him debuting here at the end of this match and handing the win to Scott. Aside from that, this match was dope. Scott, post help from Francis, hit the JML Driver on Ruff for the win at 11:46 (shown of 15:21). ***½

The Way meets up with Doomsday and makes boob jokes. Snooze. It’s a set up for Karrion Kross vs. Austin Theory next week. Later, Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter want the next shot at the tag titles. Frankie Monet rolls up and antagonizes them.

Cameron Grimes def. Asher Hale
Hale is Anthony Henry. He puts up a fun fight against Grimes, but this is a squash, baby. Grimes hit the Cave In for the win at 3:14. I’m glad Hale is here. N/A

Ever-Rise rolls up on Grimes asking to go to the club with him. He’s riding solo, though. Later, Scott walks out of the building with his new stable consisting of himself, Francis, Ashante Adonis, and Briana Brandy.

Timothy Thatcher & Tommaso Ciampa def. Zack Gibson & James Drake
Ciampa’s hot tag routine rules. I wonder if the Way vs. Ciampa & Thatcher violates the One Final Beat match stipulation, because I’d like to see it. This was a lot of fun, though it was very one-sided in Ciampa & Thatcher’s favor. The Grizzled Young Veterans got to show off a little bit, but this was all about showing the good guys’ stuff. The GYV loves to cheat, but Ciampa beat them at that game by distracting the referee while Thatcher hit Gibson with Wade Barrett’s shoe and then putting on an armbar for the win at 10:53 (shown of 14:25). ***½

Kross comes out for a chat. That vest is bad, dude. He threatens Theory, but it’s Kyle O’Reilly who comes out to confront him. His gear is bad too. If he doesn’t quote Austin Powers I’m going to call it a win. He cuts an earnest promo about wanting a title shot thank god and then is interrupted by Pete Dunne thank god. Dunne’s clothes are good. He’s getting good at promos and also wants a title shot. Finn Balor comes out to say he’s beaten Dunne and O’Reilly and tries to attack Kross. It goes bad for him and Kross cleans house. The Way tries attacking Kross and that’s enough to finally put the champ down. This whole thing worked for me.

Sarray def. Zayda Ramier
I’ve been watching a lot of modern joshi lately, and Sarray’s insanity in Japan has been a big part of that. So I don’t have patience for another Ramier fluke win. Luckily, this match was mostly Sarray dropkicking Ramier into oblivion and then putting her down with an Exploder at 4:38. **

WALTER shouts at Imperium over Facetime. It’s not in English, but body language tells us that Alexander Wolfe doesn’t like it. Then, we get another commercial for Diamond Mine. Then, Zoey Stark stops Toni Storm from messing with Ramier as she and Sarray have a post-match bond. Later, Storm claims she brought Stark into this business and she plans to take her out of it. Later still, Candice LeRae hides a drawing and flowers from Dexter Lumis before Indi Hartwell can see them. Even later, Grimes finally arrives at the club but he can’t get in because Ted DiBiase has bought out the whole place.

LA Knight def. Jake Atlas
Atlas got some nice offense in, but squish squish you know what the deal is here. Knight hit the BFT for the win at 3:06. **

Legado del Fantasma comes to the ring for a chat. They want the tag titles and the 205 title. Kushida pops up on the big screen to offer Santos Escobar his title shot next week in a 2/3 Falls Match. No word from MSK, but this makes two title matches next week already as they announce Raquel Gonzalez vs. Mercedes Martinez is happening for that belt. Then they segue right into a split screen interview with those two.

Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell def. Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart {NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship Street Fight}
Monet’s dog pooped in Blackheart’s tank before the match so they have to walk to the ring. Okay so Blackheart is Freddy Krueger but what is Moon cosplaying as? This was better than I expected, but had one major flaw keeping it from being super great. It was constantly chaotic and violent and pretty much nothing looked stupid. But a couple of times the commentators had to say, “somehow LeRae (or Hartwell) have recovered and are back in this thing,” after with pretty much no ill effect being the victim of a dive from high up through an object care of Blackheart. Hartwell didn’t even sell that she was in pain while going from being hit with a dive through the announce table to diving onto Moon on a table on the floor. The biggest spots should have some consequence, otherwise I can’t connect to them! LeRae hit Blackheart with the Wicked Stepsister on a chair for the win and the titles at 13:01 (shown of 15:31). ***½
