Andy Shepherd is in charge again, back in his living room. This week’s theme is the Rise of Imperium.
WALTER debuted at NXT Takeover: Blackpool, after the main event. He stared down then-champion Pete Dunne. Then he squashed Jack Starz and ripped up the little guy’s chest.

WALTER def. Jack Starz
WALTER won in 2:30 with a powerbomb and was very over and looked very impressive. I mean, the big fella does the Jon Woo dropkick. This is how squashes are done well, so, well done. Later, Starz posted a photo of his chest to twitter with WALTER’s full hand print on it. That was pretty cool. N/A
Nina Samuels talks about WALTER in terms of being NXT UK’s leading man. Starz reflects on the match and Ashton Smith says that he knew after the Starz match that WALTER could beat Dunne for the title.
They show clips of WALTER beating Dunne for the title in New York. Then we join in progress the rematch from Scotland.

WALTER def. Pete Dunne {WWE United Kingdom Championship Match}
TV rematches of Takeover bangers are never quite as good, and this was no exception. How are you going to go as hard in front of a strong but small Glasgow crowd as you did in front of an international hoard in New York City? That said, this told a great story, featuring Dunne baiting WALTER into moments that brought WALTER success in New York, only to counter them and get the upper hand. He also looked to finish this the same way he finished off Joe Coffey, but Fabian Aichner helped WALTER get relief. As Aichner distracted the referee, Marcel Barthel blasted Dunne with the belt, and WALTER cleaned things up with a powerbomb for the win. The match took a bit of time to get where it was going, but once it did I was very invested. The finish also sets up this new super heel group. I’m excited for what’s to come. ****
Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner talk about the formation of Imperium, having helped WALTER retain his title against Dunne.

Fabian Aichner, Marcel Barthel & WALTER def. Pete Dunne, Trent Seven & Tyler Bate
It took everyone a minute to get the action flowing, but once it did the match was a blast. Everyone started firing on all cylinders, hitting wild moves and finding creative ways to impede the opposite team from being at full force. I really dug it. The finish saw the referee get bumped and Alexander Wolfe debut on the brand to attack Bate and give Barthel the win. After the match he posed with Imperium, giving them the numbers advantage over British Strong Style in this war. ***¾
Alexander Wolfe says that he knew that in order for Imperium to take over NXT UK, they’d have to take out British Strong Style.
Next week, more wrestlers will pick their favorite matches. Looks like this show and 205 Live are going to be the same format for a while.
Things wrap up with Imperium’s little feud with Undisputed Era, leading to Worlds Collide: NXT vs. NXT UK. I don’t imagine we’ll be seeing another one of those any time soon.
January 25, 2020 – Houston, Texas
WALTER, Alexander Wolfe, Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner def. Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly
This very long match can be forgiven for being awkward in the early going because of Wolfe’s unfortunate injury. Thankfully, a few hours after the show went off the air he reported on Twitter that he was doing well. I’m pretty impressed that these teams were able to pull it together and have what turned out to be an insane fight to close the show. Three vs. four is enough people that it didn’t feel like a handicap match, especially because of the giant WALTER looming over everything. I wish Cole had pinned WALTER in the end, as it would better suit the way I’ve fantasy booked the road to Takeover: Tampa Bay, and WALTER pinning Fish (in 29:52 with a powerbomb) is probably the least interesting and most predictable finish the match could have. But that’s really my only complaint. Like I said, it’s a real feat and testament to everyone’s professionalism that they turned this into a brain-melter. ****
WALTER talks about his philosophy and his pride in the work he’s done in NXT UK. He lists his victims and tells Finn Balor he’s eager to put him down. I’m surprised they’re still referencing this upcoming match on TV when Balor is up to other things in Florida.
