NXT UK 87

March 12, 2020 – Coventry, West Midlands

We have our first ever all-British commentary team for this show, as Nigel McGuinness is joined by ring announcer Andy Shepherd in the booth. And then Finn Balor comes out to enter us into a timeline that Coronavirus will disrupt. He wants to fight WALTER. WALTER comes out, flanked by Imperium. Alexander Wolfe welcomes Balor to NXT UK and goes in for the attack with Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner. Balor fights them off and escapes the ring unscathed.

Piper Niven says she came out during the I Quit Match two weeks ago because Toni Storm is her sister, even if they don’t always get along. She thinks Kay Lee Ray is evil and that someone has to do something about that. She sounds super bored. Then there’s a little Tyler Bate hype video.

Lewis Howley & Sam Stoker def. Dan Moloney & DeReiss Gordon
Moloney & Gordon don’t get an entrance. I think that’s the first time that’s happened on this show, but I could be super wrong about that. This was fine, but nothing special. Moloney’s hot tag and comeback were kind of fun, and Pretty Deadly showed decent chemistry as a tag team. But I have no sense of who they are, so it’s hard to get invested. They hit the Deadly Pretty on Moloney for the win at 6:07. They’ve gotta change that name. **

Alexander Wolfe demands a match against Finn Balor tonight from the General Managers. They flippantly give it to him. What the fuck was that? Why are people acting like they don’t care what happens on this show? If you don’t care why would I care? Jordan Devlin approaches and congratulates the GMs on his return. They let him know that in two weeks he’ll defend his NXT Cruiserweight Championship against Travis Banks. He doesn’t seem concerned. Why should I be concerned then?! Earlier, Gallus gets into an argument with Flash Mandrews & Dave Mastiff. They’ll have a six man tag next week. That’s a pretty thin reason to have a match. I’m curious about what the Hunt was talking about in the background.

Noam Dar def. Ligero
This was a nice, short but fast-paced cruiser match. The length made it feel a little less exciting than the typical Ligero special (where he jobs to or barely beats a wrestler that the brand clearly prefers to him). Dar won in 6:13 with the Nova Roller. **¾

Travis Banks is excited to face Devlin for Devlin’s title. He promises that he’ll be the first ever Kiwi Champion in NXT history in two weeks. You shouldn’t make promises you can’t keep.

Amale nc. Dani Luna
This went 1:56 before KLR ran out and attacked both women. She says that the women’s division belongs to her. Luna attacks her from behind and gets laid out. N/A

Aoife Valkyrie gets a video package. It’s well-produced but the gimmick ain’t working so far.

Finn Balor def. Alexander Wolfe
Imperium came out to watch halfway through the match, which slowed things down. Also, Wolfe fought from behind for a lot of this, which isn’t at all what made hits NXT UK matches to date so good. Imperium interfered and got sent to the back. Everything after that was pretty fun, but it was like three minutes of wild action. Hopefully Balor’s other match from the taping cycle is worth the price of his plane ticket. Balor won in 8:28 with the 1916. **¾

What a weird episode.
