Worlds Collide: Brands Collide

May 1, 2019 – Brooklyn, New York

We finally get a normal announce team with Percy Watson and Vic Joseph, only for the sound mixing to be atrocious and for the boys not to be audible for most of the show.

Bianca Belair def. Taynara Conti, Kacy Catanzaro, Deonna Purrazzo, Io Shirai, Jessamyn Duke, Marina Shafir, Jessie, Lacey Lane, Xia Li, Kavita Devi, Kay Lee Ray, Mia Yim, Piper Niven, Reina Gonzalez, Vanessa Borne, Aliyah, and Toni Storm {Battle Royal}
I was wondering how they’d fill a full hour with just two battle royals, but that question was answered immediately as every woman got a full entrance. I was kind of surprised there were no Raw or Smackdown women in this match (or on this show). Quite a whole lot of nothing happened before Catanzaro’s elimination at the hands of Gonzalez finally gave us something to pay attention to. Then nothing really happened for a long, long time. Well, some things bordered on what you might consider happening, but mostly we had to wait until Niven got eliminated by Aliyah & Borne before the planned bits kicked in. From there, Shirai (last eliminated), Belair, Gonzalez, and Storm actually put on a good little show; we just had to sit through so much garbage to get there. **¾

Roderick Strong def. Ariya Daivari, Brian Kendrick, Dave Mastiff, Drew Gulak, Fabian Aichner, Eric Bugenhagen, Humberto Carrillo, Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey, Dominik Dijakovic, Ligero, Matt Riddle, Rinku Singh, Saurav Gurjar, Wesley Blake, Steve Cutler, Akira Tozawa, Travis Banks, and Tyler Bate {Battle Royal}
This one sprinkled the interesting spots throughout the match a little better than in the women’s battle royal, but that didn’t make most of this match leaps and bounds better. In the end it came down to Gurjar, Strong, Riddle, and Bate, and watching everyone desperately try to eliminate Gurjar was fun. The thing that set this apart from the last match was the very long finish being between Strong and Bate. It was great call, as those two are just magic against each other. ***½
