NXT UK 16

December 12, 2018 – Plymouth, Devon

Mark Coffey & Wolfgang def. Ashton Smith & Ligero
This was fun in fits and starts, but the finish was really flat and a decent amount of the match was pretty awkward. You can consider this a de facto quarterfinal match in the tag team title tournament. Later on in the back, the winners say that they feel they belong in contention for the tag titles, and Joe Coffey says he has his eyes on Pete Dunne and the NXT UK Championship. He calls it the WWE UK Championship, and I think we need a decision once and for all on what they’re calling that damn thing. Coffey also says he wants to put Travis Banks down. **

Johnny Saint and Sid Scala book Rhea Ripley and Isla Dawn in a title match next week. Saint actually says a couple words, but the set up makes it look like Scala is a ventriloquist with his hand up the old man’s ass.

Joseph Conners def. Jack Starz
I don’t review squashes, and I don’t have a ton of use for Conners. N/A

Tyson T-Bone and Saxon Huxley are going to team up. Gypsy Jesus, as it were.

Jinny def. Xia Brookside
I want to give Brookside points for how extremely she sells, but I think all the screaming in pain makes it seem more like she’s out of her league than it does anything else. Maybe that’s what she’s going for. This match never really got out of the gate. **

The Grizzled Young Veterans come out for a very quick promo to say that they’re going to be the first tag team champions. That’s seriously it. What a weird segment.

Dave Mastiff def. Eddie Dennis
After a rocky start, they pushed each other pretty hard to put on a pretty entertaining power battle. Mastiff looked both strong and smart here, and Dennis didn’t screw anything up. Hell, he almost looked impressive here and there. Good for them. ***
