December 5, 2018 – Plymouth, Devon
Joseph Conners def. Dan Moloney
This was a paint-by-numbers squash that went on way too long. N/A
Isla Dawn rambles on a bit before Rhea Ripley interrupts her and acts like a bully. I don’t have a lot of faith in this program. Outside, Gallus and Mustache Mountain almost come to blows, but luckily a couple referees, Sid Scala and Johnny Saint are outside too to keep them separated. This could have used a second take.
Dave Mastiff def. Mike Hitchman
I love that Mastiff lifts moves from Yasushi Kanda of all people. That’s really all I loved about this extended squash. After the match, Mastiff gives Hitchman props while Eddie Dennis creeps on him from behind. N/A
Ligero def. Tyson T-Bone
This was perfectly competent, but they couldn’t capture the crowd’s attention and were a ways off from really capturing mine. **¼
Rhea Ripley def. Candy Floss
There are a lot of squashes on this program. Ripley works this match in a t-shirt to hammer home how little this matters. She continues to beat up Floss after the match. N/A
Flash Morgan Webster tells Fabian Aichner that he doesn’t like the way Aichner wrestled in his match against Mark Andrews. Aichner challenges him to a match, and Webster accepts. It’ll happen next week. Sid Scala announces that Trent Seven will take on Joe Coffey in the main event next week, and they’re also going to give an update on the NXT UK Tag Team Championships. Johnny Saint stands next to him, slightly out of focus. The old man’s presence on this show is so unbelievably odd.
Travis Banks def. Wolfgang
This match, which was meant to be the main event twelve episodes ago but got canned due to injury, started with six minutes remaining in the 52-minute broadcast. Last week went over 60 minutes with only four matches. What I’m getting at is that this episode was poorly managed. The match only goes a few minutes before the Coffeys and Mustache Mountain get involved. In a strange turn of events, the interference favors the babyface in the finish here. Sadly, like most Wolfgang matches, there wasn’t much to write home about. **¼
This reminded me a lot of a lot of a late 2012 episode of NXT TV, and that’s really something this brand should be trying to avoid.
