Tyler Bate nc. Joe Coffey
This was meant to be Coffey vs. Sid Scala as part of Scala’s ascension angle, but as I assumed he was injured. Scala personally chose Bate as his replacement. This was a good, intense match that got spoiled when Coffey’s friends ran in and brawled with British Strong Style. The Scots retreat after a bit. ***¼
Ligero def. Dan Moloney
Moloney gets a brief Star Wars chant, with Dan in place of Dar, and I feel very affronted on Noam Dar’s behalf. This was a solid little bout. I wonder if they’ll give Ligero an actual program (outside of being a two-week target of Jordan Devlin’s rage). **¼
James Drake & Zack Gibson def. Amir Jordan & Kenny Williams
The shoes come off immediately for Gibson and I forgive the crowd for betraying Dar. I dig Williams and Jordan as a plucky little guy team. Drake doesn’t have much of a presence, but if he’s the excuse for a lot of Gibson on this show then I’ll deal with him. I think this did more for the babyfaces, even with Gibson and Drake (going by the team name the Grizzled Young Veterans) got a strong victory with a tandem finisher. **½
Rhea Ripley def. Toni Storm {NXT UK Women’s Championship Match}
Johnny Saint emerges from his Twitter cocoon to present the title to the inaugural champion. The crowd was really shocked by the finish here, probably in part because everyone assumed Storm would win, but also because it felt like that had a few minutes left in them and the finish felt kind of abrupt. Ripley looked very dominant, and I’m hoping the inevitable rematch gets a bit more time as this match only went just under 10 minutes. Ripley is very taken by the moment, and shows (probably too much) respect to Triple H and Saint as they present her with the belt. ***½
