NXT 442

April 4, 2018 – Winter Park, Florida

Roderick Strong & Pete Dunne nc. Akam & Rezar {Tournament Finals/Number One Contenders Match}
Bobby Fish is injured, so the Undisputed Era is vulnerable and the winners here are likely to win the tag titles at Takeover. This took a while to get going, but once it did they built up some solid drama. Then the Undisputed Era (minus Fish) ran in to ruin the match. William Regal is pissed. He books all three teams into a match at Takeover where the winner will get the tag titles and the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic trophy. That is so dumb and I can’t stand it. This angle and the unsanctioned match angle AND the North American title in general were so poorly conceived and it’s a miracle for NXT that the matches were good enough to make people forget how we got there. ***

Kairi Sane def. Vanessa Borne
This was fine, I guess. It’s not really apropos of anything happening at Takeover, but I like Sane so it’s cool. *¾

Lacey Evans doesn’t like that William Regal keeps hiring societal trash. She says she means people like Jesus Cross, but I’ve heard she probably is actually referring more to people like Sonya Deville.

Adam Cole is pissed that he has to defend the tag titles after being in the ladder match. Regal says either Cole wrestles twice, Kyle O’Reilly wrestles by himself, or Cole skips the ladder match. Cole is pissed. I hate this angle, but I’ll be okay with it if it ends with Cole just relentlessly rubbing in Regal’s face that they ate his crap and came out on top anyway. If Regal isn’t involved in the fallout then I’ll consider this a hack move.

Lars Sullivan nc. Killian Dain
This was pretty short and disappointing given this match was three months in the making, and really it was just there to kill time before all the ladder match participants ran out to stare one another down. Ricochet looked Daredevil though, so that’s neat. *
