NXT 441

March 28, 2018 – Winter Park, Florida

Tommaso Ciampa complains to William Regal the Johnny Gargano showed up at Full Sail last week. He was also at Ciampa’s physical therapist’s office and his house. Regal suggests that since Gargano isn’t employed there that the two of them have an unsanctioned match at Takeover. But if Gargano wins, he’s back in NXT. Wow, this development actually blows. What actual motivation does Ciampa have to accept that stipulation? “Gargano is banned from NXT forever if he loses.” He’s already banned from NXT. They couldn’t think of a more severe stipulation for Gargano than that? How about if he loses then Candice LeRae is fired too? The storyline needs to make sense and right now it doesn’t.

Regal comes out to the ring and announces that there’s going to be a brand new NXT North American Championship. What is the significance of this title? He doesn’t say. Were the NXT writers called in to help with the main roster storyline heading into WrestleMania and they didn’t have time to write a show here? Because that’s what this feels like. He says it will be great, like how the UK title brought us all these dope wrestlers from Europe… except that the show is already mostly filled with North American wrestlers. This is some mind-numbing shit right here. EC3 comes out, looking a lot more tan than when he was on NXT five years earlier. He assumes Regal just wants to award him the title. Regal says that there’s actually going to be a six-man ladder match for the title at Takeover.

At the Performance Center, the TM61 cut a boring promo about how they need to figure out their career while in the background Shayna Baszler and Ember Moon get into a boring brawl. I hate this episode so much already.

Akam & Rezar def. Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford {Semifinal Match}
Ford freaks out because Dawkins handles the Authors of Pain, but then the Profits get distracted by Paul Ellering (really their own fault as they approached him) and get rolled. Whatever. *½

Regal announces that Adam Cole will be in the ladder match. Velveteen Dream approaches him and successfully petitions to get into the ladder match.

Lars Sullivan def. Jon Silver
Silver looks like a miniature version of Sullivan. I don’t review squashes. After the match, Regal tells Sullivan that he’s in the ladder match. Sullivan is unequivocally and categorically pleased, but he still wants to fight Killian Dain. I’m glad he didn’t forget about that. Regal says Dain is in the ladder match too, but Sullivan and Dain will fight next week on NXT TV as well. N/A

Dakota Kai comes out, presumably for a match, but the show cuts to an altercation in the parking lot. Andrade Cien Almas is attacking Amsterdam Black. He drags black to the ring and continues to beat him up. Are we going to get Dakota Kai vs. Zelina Vega next week to avenge her disrupted match? Perhaps a mixed-tag match? Almost certainly not.

Roderick Strong & Pete Dunne def. Eric Young & Alexander Wolfe {Semifinal Match}
This had no flow and no heat. It wasn’t bad, but it was disappointing. It makes sense, this episode was a disaster so why should it have a great main event? **½

Regal closes the show by saying that Ricochet will be the final entrant in the ladder match.
