NXT 420

November 15, 2017 – Winter Park, Florida

Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford def. Tino Sabbatelli & Riddick Moss
Uch, you can relax Mauro Ranallo, we get that you like hip hop. This was fine, just fine, and the right team went over. Dawkins’ finisher is a punch now. **¼

Lars Sullivan def. Raul Mendoza
I don’t review squashes. Kassius Ohno comes out after the match because Sullivan was going to keep beating on Mendoza. Ohno looks like a tall fan, and Sullivan must think so too because he laughs at him. N/A

William Regal wants Johnny Gargano to take Pete Dunne up on an open challenge he’s put out for a UK title match. He has faith Gargano will turn his singles woes around, and Gargano is happy to face Dunne next week.

Ember Moon def. Mercedes Martinez
Is it controversial to say that Martinez is past her prime? She really hasn’t delivered in her WWE matches. This gets a 5 on the CES, and was pretty run-of-the-mill save for an exciting spot or two near the end. It was nice that all the contenders except for Royce Da 5’7 got a match in the last few weeks to show how dominant they are. They all come out after the match and just stand there. How do they explain nothing happening to the live crowd? Like, Kairi Sane came out last. Does she just stand there for a minute and then walk to the back with no explanation? They have to know that it doesn’t feel natural for people watching at home either. **½

Drew McIntyre comes out to the ring to have a face-to-face with Andrade Cien Almas, seemingly because a Takeover title match must have one non-match interaction ahead of time in the ring. McIntyre tells Almas to come face him. Almas runs out and attacks him. With Zelina Vega’s help, Almas beats McIntyre down.

Because the Cruiserweight Championship is now an NXT title and I’m reviewing every title defense of the WWE/NXT Cruiserweight Championship and post them on the NXT TV reviews that preceded them, here’s the title defense from Survivor Series 2017.

November 19, 2017 – Houston, Texas

Enzo Amore def. Kalisto {WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match}
Kalisto botches his entrance, so the tone has been set. This was dull even by the standards set by their previous matches, and while they had a clean, pinfall finish, they managed to fuck it up with some confusing garbage on the apron that went wrong right before it. I’d call this a joke but it isn’t funny. Amore won in 8:13 with the Jawdonzo. ¾*
