NXT 404

August 2, 2017 – Winter Park, Florida

Johnny Gargano def. Raul Mendoza
Gargano changes his entrance music from DIY to his personal theme music mid-entrance. That’s cute, and is a more direct way to get the message across than when he did it before and after his promo a couple weeks ago. This was fun, and a good return for Gargano. **¾

Asuka comes out and trash talks Ember Moon. Moon comes out and says she’s ready. Asuka slaps Moon and they brawl. Moon hits the Eclipse on Asuka, and it ranks only ranks a 3 on the Contrived Eclipse Scale because of clever camera work.

Roderick Strong attacks Bobby Roode during an interview. William Regal tells Strong he has to go about things the right away. Strong tells Regal he’ll do anything to get his hands on Roode, so Regal just needs to tell him what to do. Regal has nothing for him.

Sonya Deville def. Jenna Van Bemel
I don’t review squashes, but Deville makes no connection with the crowd and has no real personality. N/A

Hideo Itami doesn’t feel like he’s getting the respect he deserves, so he steals an interviewers microphone and goes out to the ring. A match is about to start, but Itami doesn’t care. Aleister Black comes out for his match and catches Itami coming at him by hitting the Black Mass. Then he sits down and waits for his surprise opponent.

Amsterdam Black def. Kyle O’Reilly
The gimmick here, I guess starting back with the Bobby Fish match, is that wrestlers from all over the world are petitioning to face Black. They did some cool stuff here, but it was way too long and the finish went for a strong style feel but because Black didn’t have the fire to pull it off it just came off as no-selling. ***
