NXT 401

July 12, 2017 – Winter Park, Florida

Amsterdam Black def. Bobby Fish
Hey, it’s Bobby Fish. This was really could, and actually felt like it ended prematurely. They could have gone at least another five with no problems. ***¼

Vanessa Borne def. Jayme Hachey {Tournament Qualifying Match}
Winner gets into the Mae Young Classic. These are both very attractive women. This was tough to watch as Hachey looked either nervous or lost, but Borne looked solid so it’s good that she won this squash. Ultimately, I have a suspicion that Hachey never got another look after this not because of her performance, but because of Kassius Ohno-type issues. Shame if true. N/A

In backstage altercations last week, Drew McIntyre got beat up by SAnitY for no reason and Kassius Ohno and Hideo Itami blamed each other for their tag team loss. Then they retroactively create an issue between McIntyre and SAnitY when Bobby Roode and William Regal decide that McIntyre and Killian Dain (both undefeated) should have a match to decide what the championship contender pecking order is. How hard would it have been to post the backstage video after this segment and say that it happened tonight instead of last week? What the actual fuck is wrong with the writing team.

Johnny Gargano comes out to his DIY music, and he wants to move forward as a singles wrestler. He’s going to fight at Takeover no matter what. Then he leaves to his singles music, which is a really nice touch.

Akam & Rezar vs. Otis Dozovic & Tucker Knight {NXT Tag Team Championship Match}
I love title matches three weeks in a row. Makes me want there to be longer stretches between Takeovers more often. Every moment that Dozovic was in this was a treat, right up until the moment that he got pinned. Knight isn’t the most compelling face-in-peril, but I’m happy that they know that Dozovic getting the hot tag is the way to go. I’m not holding my breath for more big matches for Heavy Machinery, but I’m going to keep my fingers crossed anyway. After the match, SAnitY comes out and drops papers from Paul Ellering’s Book of Dominance from the rafters, and Wolfe even eats one of them. I liked it more when Ellering’s book was a metaphor. ***
