Patrick Clark def. Sean Maluta
Percy Watson says Maluta is a member of the Samoan dynasty, and apparently he’s Afa’s nephew. I did not know that, but he was a WXW champion so that checks out. He controlled all of this until Clark hit a Famouser out of nowhere for the win. *½
Asuka def. Royce Da 5’7 {NXT Women’s Championship Match}
This is Asuka’s first non-Takeover match of the year. Big test of Royce’s skills here. She did alright here, and Asuka was very generous to her. They framed the match around Royce and Billie Kay hurting Asuka’s arm early on, making her vulnerable. That didn’t make for the most exciting match, but it made for one that was at least believable. After the match, Kay and Royce attack Asuka until Ember Moon makes the save. Asuka raises the title rather than thanking Moon. That’s an interesting way to start a feud between them. ***
They replay the entire post-main event segment from last week, making me wonder why I need to bother watching an episode of they’ll just play the most important parts of it in full next week. Doesn’t make anything feel particularly urgent. William Regal awards Kassius Ohno a championship match in two weeks. Also, Shinsuke Nakamura returns from his injury next week.
Akam & Rezar nc. Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa {NXT Tag Team Championship Match}
The tactical vest is the modern version of the fanny pack, so expect Rezar to show up in one at Ciampa’s 5th wedding in 36 years. This match wasn’t on the level of their Takeover match, but the second half was pretty exciting. They never had a moment when I believed DIY might win the thing, and right when it was starting to look like they might the Revival came in and spoiled the match. After the match, the Revival actually gets the better of the Authors of Pain with the Shatter Machine. ***¼
Because the Cruiserweight Championship is now an NXT title and I’m reviewing every title defense of the WWE/NXT Cruiserweight Championship and post them on the NXT TV reviews that preceded them, here’s the title defense from Fastlane 2017, and the one from the following night on Raw.

Neville def. Jack Gallagher {WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match}
Gallagher beat TJ Perkins, Cedric Alexander, Noam Dar, and Mustafa Ali in an elimination match to get this title shot. Gallagher is great at fighting from behind, and all his comebacks here (almost all headbutts) were quite effective. This was a rather widely panned Pay Per View, and this match was seen by most as the high-point. I have to agree, because watching two talented Brits beat each other up is usually a good time. Nevile won with the Red Arrow at 12:34. ***½

Neville def. Rich Swann {WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match}
This was Swann’s championship rematch, which was delayed because he got injured when losing the title. Neville won with the Brutalizer at 5:54 (shown). A ton of this match happened during two commercial breaks, but what we saw was a lot of fun. Neville looked strong whie Swann looked competent while putting this footnote in Neville’s reign to bed. They really didn’t know how to handle this whole commercial break thing. After the match, a very popular Austin Aries interviews Neville. Aries teases Neville about the crowd’s love for him, and Neville is offended at the idea of a match between them. He runs down Aries’ commentator status until Aries socks him in the face and lays him out with an elbow. By WWE’s standards, this was a shockingly organic set up for a match. ***
