NXT 381

March 8, 2017 – Orlando, Florida

Tye Dillinger nc. Eric Young
Young sends SAnitY to the back, but they return with a beaten Roderick Strong on the ramp. Dillinger bails on the match to check on Strong and the match never happens. Instead, Dillinger and No Way Jose try fighting all of SAnitY and get beaten up.

Billie Kay and Royce Da 5’7 won Breakout Superstar of the Year in 2016?! That’s just the dumbest thing I can imagine. They get into a tiff with Ember Moon at the Performance Center, but all I can think about is the award they’re trotting around that they don’t deserve. How did Dillinger not win that award?

Andrade Cien Almas def. Ho Ho Lun
I don’t review squashes. Wake me when Zelina Vega gets here. N/A

Ember Moon def. Billie Kay
Kay isn’t as bad as Dana Brooke, and Royce isn’t as good as Emma, so what we’ve got with the Iconic Duo is just blah. We hit a 6 on the Contrived Eclipse Scale, and the match was dull but inoffensive. I’ll take that from Kay. After the match, Kay puts over the move by needing assistance to get to the back. Later, Moon is granted a title match against Asuka at Takeover: Orlando. **¼

Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson nc. Gabriel Ealy & Uriel Ealy
If the Ealys aren’t ready to be on TV, it’s not doing them any favors to trot them out only to have no contests once a year. The Authors of Pain take them out during their entrance, so the Revival hits the bricks and a match never happens.

Shinsuke Nakamura def. TJ Perkins
It’s mentioned that Nakamura and Perkins were in the same youngboy class in New Japan, which made me look up their ages and despite being only 4 years apart, Nakamura looks like he could be Perkins’ dad. That’s hard living. I guess the story here was that no matter what Perkins did to Nakamura’s knee, he’s back and can’t be stopped from using it to put people down. I think that’s sort of an uninteresting story, and because of that Perkins never felt like a threat, and because of that the match didn’t have a ton of drama. These guys could sleepwalk to a solid match, but it probably could have been more. After the match, William Regal sets Nakamura’s title match for Takeover: Orlando, against whoever wins the title match next week. ***¼
