NXT 353

September 7, 2016 – Winter Park, Florida

Nick Miller & Shane Thorne def. Ariya Daivari & Tony Nese
Fun, spotty opener. I wonder how much this season of CWC infiltration will take over the show. ***

In a backstage interview, Asuka finally begins saying, “No one is ready for Asuka.” This is my favorite Asuka personality.

Ember Moon def. Leah Von
I don’t review squashes, but this was kinda bad and Moon’s finisher is still awful. If your opponent has to stand still staring at you, your move sucks. What makes it worse is that they show it in slow motion afterwards, totally exposing it. Awful. N/A

Andrade Cien Almas def. Austin Aries
Huh, I thought this was going to be better. It wasn’t bad but there was only one interesting spot in the match (Aries catching Almas springboarding into the ring and hitting a powerbomb). Maybe if they’d been given the main event slot that they deserved they’d have been more inclined to bring the goods. **¾

Shinsuke Nakamura def. Steve Cutler
Cutler’s angry military vet gimmick, in my opinion, is really lousy. It’s not provocative enough to be interesting and it’s not reverential enough to be worthy of other veterans. The match was short and one-sided for Nakamura, except for when Cutler put on a chinlock. No thank you, Mr. Cutler. The most interesting thing about this match was Samoa Joe sitting in on commentary and being incredibly complementary toward the champion. Joe then leaves without issue. *½
