NXT 351

August 24, 2016 – Brooklyn, New York

As usual with the arena Takeover shows, the episode following features the pre-show matches under the guise of another taping in the arena. I dig it.

Tye Dillinger def. Wesley Blake
I don’t understand what’s going on with Dillinger. A few weeks ago he chokes in a match against Oney Lorcan, then Orcan leaves NXT on a mission to “get back to his roots” or something and DIllinger moves on like nothing happened? This was fine for a pre-show Takeover match, but long-term it shows some pretty shoddy booking. **½

The bulk of the show is a Takeover recap, but of note: Bayley debuted on Raw the following Monday. Also Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa are now calling themselves DIY, which I’m only mentioning here because I didn’t mention it in my Takeover review.

Akam & Rezar def. Shane Thorne & Nick Miller
This was pretty damn fun, and a reminder that the Authors of Pain are world’s better at this big, dominant, monster tag team thing than the Ascension ever was. When they debuted I got nervous because I have so much Ascension PTSD, but this match was a major salve for that. Incidentally, it’s the best TM61 has looked since debuting. ***¼.
