NXT Clash of the Champions

April 24, 2013 – Winter Park, Florida

Antonio Cesaro def. Adrian Neville [WWE United States Championship Match]
Cesaro had lost the title by this point, so a ticker at the bottom of the screen reveals that this match was taped weeks ago. I wish WWE would go back and remove that ticker so that those watching the match years later like me wouldn’t have the ending completely spoiled. Anyway, this match is a great example of what makes Cesaro a better heel than anyone on the NXT roster; even when he’s doing the heelish rest holds, he’s still engaging with the crowd and moving Neville around so the match doesn’t get boring. This didn’t have the raw enthusiasm of their Battle of Los Angeles match from 6 years prior, but both guys showed a lot more polish here and the finish was sublime. ***¾

Kaitlyn def. AJ Lee [WWE Divas Championship Match]
Kaitlyn was really channeling Vader here, just clubbing the crap out of Lee and then finding a creative way to hit that spear out of nowhere to finish the thing. **¾

Chris Jericho is going to be on NXT next week, and Dusty Rhodes has said he can fight anyone he wants. Bray Wyatt interrupts and says if Jericho joins the Wyatt Family then he’ll be feared again. Jericho says he’ll face Wyatt next week and if Wyatt wins, Jericho will join the Family.

Big E Langston def. Brad Maddox [NXT Championship Match]
Langston defends the title like once a quarter and the most annoying guy in WWE, who has never had an NXT match, gets a shot. This title reign is trash. I don’t rate squashes. N/A

Wade Barrett def. Bo Dallas [WWE Intercontinental Championship Match]
Dallas eliminated Barrett from the Royal Rumble and embarrassed him by pinning him on RAW, setting up this match. Dallas was never believable as a threat in this match, but this had enough back and forth action to be a serviceable main event. Given the 2013 roster, I’d like more NXT Clash of the Championses please. ***¼
