NXT 165

April 17, 2013 – Winter Park, Florida

Leo Kruger def. Justin Gabriel
This is the blowoff match, right? Gabriel has lost twice in really decisive fashion so I’m not sure there’s anywhere left to go here. This was the best of the three matches they’ve had, and the best Kruger performance yet. The crowd wasn’t with them, but everything about this really clicked, except for Gabriel’s weird facial expressions while selling, and Kruger’s offense was finally pretty interesting. ***¼

They announce NXT Clash of the Champions for next week, in which 4 titles will be defended, but don’t explain why any of the matches in particular are happening. Three of them seem like they could be a lot of fun, but annoying commentator Brad Maddox getting an NXT Championship match is really baffling, and frankly insulting to fans of NXT TV.

Emma def. Bayley
Emma breaking out all the Japanese submission moves she used here kind of flies in the face of her gimmick, but I wasn’t mad to see the Tarantula and Mutalock make appearances in NXT. **¼

Bray Wyatt def. Yoshi Tatsu
I don’t review squashes. N/A

Seth Rollins def. Corey Graves [Lumberjack Match]
Regal calls the lumberjacks a motley bunch, and that’s an understatement. Folks I recognize who ever become anyone are Big Cass, Enzo Amore, Scott Dawson, and Aiden English. In what should be a shock to nobody, Amore makes sure to stand in view of the hard camera and makes a spectacle of himself. The Shield run out and take out all of the lumberjacks, attack Graves, and give Rollins the win. If they’re going to be this dominant it’d be nice if they stuck around a bit to make all these wins and beat-downs worth it to NXT. **½
