NXT 85

October 5, 2011 – Biloxi, Mississippi

Curt Hawkins & Tyler Reks (with a Raw entrance graphic) start the show. Reks has way too much of a regular white guy voice for a wrestler who looks as weird as he does. They cut a bad promo. Then the Usos come out and cut a bad promo. Apparently this is happening because Raw is in disarray so they can invade NXT due to the chaos. Well, at least it’s an attempt at an explanation as to why four non-NXT guys would main event this show.

Derrick Bateman def. Titus O’Neil
Darren Young and O’Neil seem to have been on Raw the night before, so why are they still (technical) contestants on this show? O’neil finally got his own entrance music too. William Regal’s brain breaks during the match and he slurs and stutters to the point that it becomes painful to listen to. They kept this short, so it didn’t have the same chance to bore that their matches usually do. *¾

Yoshi Tatsu def. JTG
Someone has stolen Tatsu’s face paint. Regal openly mocks the angle. This match was fine, just fine. **

Daniel Bryan def. Heath Slater
This is a cute little match, which Bryan wins with the Regal stretch. He gives a nod to Regal after the match. There was no real reason for this match to happen on this show, but at least these two are former NXT rookies. **¾

Curt Hawkins & Tyler Reks def. Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso
I guess they were playing it pretty fast and loose with the brand split at this point because this was a Raw vs. Smackdown match and that never really comes up on commentary. This was short but had a really energy. Hawkins’ diving elbowdrop is ugly as hell though. **¾
