September 27, 2011 – St. Louis, Missouri
At this point the show has done away with Matt Striker as a host, Maryse is gone completely, the competition aspect isn’t being spoken about except in a very vague wayl, but the opening video still focuses on Darren Young, Titus O’Neil, and Derrick Bateman. Has there ever been a weekly wrestling show that focuses on three specific wrestlers for no reason whatsoever? JTG and Young start the show by calling out how long season 5 has been and saying they want a tag title shot after “we win this competition.” So is JTG Young’s mentor now? The Usos interrupt to brag about beating them up the last two weeks. They bring up their connections to Rikishi and the Wild Samoans as proof that they have tag team wrestling in their blood. Neat. They’ll wrestle in the main event.
Jinder Mahal def. Yoshi Tatsu
Sure, just have Mahal on the show for no reason. We’re one thread away from this show being a standard c-show, but we’re not quite there since Tatsu was Byron Saxton’s pro. The amount that Jack Korpela apologizes to William Regal on commentary is really annoying. Grow a backbone, kid. This was actually a pretty decent match, definitely a cut above the usual fare here. **½
Hornswoggle gives AJ a letter (read by Titus O’Neil) that says that he doesn’t believe Maxine’s lies about her, but he’s leaving her anyway because his ambitions make him want to be on Smackdown and stop competing on NXT. AJ is on Smackdown though, so it’s really more of a breakup with O’Neil.
Tyson Kidd def. Percy Watson
This wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t really anything. *¾
Jey Uso & Jimmy Uso def. Darren Young & JTG
This was a lot of fun at the end when the Usos were in control, and really not fun when Young and JTG were in control the rest of the match. They really don’t need over ten minutes for Young/JTG matches. Curt Hawkins & Tyler Reks attack the Usos after the match. I can’t tell if this is meant to be a joke, but if they book a match between those two teams (none of whom have ever been a pro or rookie on NXT) we can probably say that season 5 of NXT is over. **
