NXT 35

October 19, 2010 – Edmonton, Alberta

This is a really short episode, only 30-minutes long. It starts with Vickie Guerrero telling Kaitlyn to cover up, which really pisses off the crowd. Maxine is on Guerrero’s side, which pisses off her own pro Alicia Fox. The whole thing ends with a match being booked between Maxine and Kaitlyn.

Kaitlyn def. Maxine
The point of this match is the pros coaching the rookies, so they have microphones so everyone can hear them say “come on” over and over. Kaitlyn wrestles in the hoodie that Guerrero gave her, which Maxine uses against her. The whole thing is really boring, even for a three-minute match. It was voted the worst match of the year by the Wrestling Observer, but it’s really no worse than the other matches even on this show. That whole system is a joke. ½*

The rookies have to guess who main roster wrestlers are based on photos of their abs. Naomi wins.

Nikki Bella & Brie Bella def. Kelly Kelly & Naomi
This was a huge mess. They were trying to get across that Nikki is more willing to cheat than Brie, but nobody in this match could do the lifting of executing that story effectively. ½*

There was pretty clearly a limbo contest segment that was outright cut from the show, because Goldust talked about it in his backstage segment with Aksana (giving her an engagement ring) and the commentators talk about it as the show comes to a close. I found the clip on YouTube and it’s no worse than any of the other contest segments. The only reason I can think that they cut it is that on commentary Cole calls out that Goldust’s last name is Runnels, and I’m not sure that was in-universe at this point. Actually, it’s more likely that they didn’t have the rights to Limbo Rock, which played over the segment. Naomi wins this too, FWIW.
