April 13, 2010 – Greenwich, London
This week’s challenge is a promo in front of the London crowd. They’re going by applause. The winner gets their own entrance theme and doesn’t have to come out to their pro’s music. This would have been fine if it took one-third the amount of time, and not over half the episode. Wade Barrett wins, which was a gimme given he’s the only British rookie.
Christian def. Wade Barrett
Christian wants revenge after being pinned by Barrett last week. Heath Slater helped Christian win after Chris Jericho failed in trying to do the same for Barrett. This was fine, just fine, which seems to be the peak that guys on this show are either capable of or allowed to be. **½
William Regal def. Daniel Bryan
I feel like, given Bryan’s trash talk and the more and more logical (if mean) pep talks that Miz has been giving Bryan that they might have thought a double turn between them was possible. It wasn’t possible. This was pretty much a squash for Regal. Miz beats up Bryan after the match, so I was probably wrong about that double turn thing, and it’s just bad writing all around. ½*
Darren Young def. Luke Gallows
Young was supposed to get his head shaved and join the Straight Edge Society on Smackdown, but he bailed on the plan. Rey Mysterio saved him to hype up his match with Punk on PPV. If Punk loses, he’ll get his head shaved. And if Young lost this match, he’d get his head shaved. But he wins, so he doesn’t get his head shaved. This was boring, heatless, and short. Young won with a surprise roll up because his hair needs to be protected. Punk finally shows Young respect after the match. ½*
Fewer than 8 minutes of total in-ring time this week. Sweet.
