NXT 07

April 6, 2010 – Chicago, Illinois

The show starts with Matt Striker recapping the last week in WWE. David Otunga, who got a tag title shot with John Cena the night before, says he walked out on the match because it was smarter to help the Miz retain the tag titles (because Miz votes on the NXT rookie standings). That actually tracks. Daniel Bryan is asked if he deserves to be top of the rankings. He says he doesn’t, but also craps on the Miz, Michael Cole, and Otunga. Striker’s bluejeans are insanely baggy. He announces that NXT will now feature weekly physical and mental challenges. I can’t believe this show stayed on the air for months before being relegated to the internet. They have to carry a keg around the ring as fast as they can, and segment goes on for an eternity. Heath Slater wins, and his prize is a main event match against Kane.

Darren Young def. Daniel Bryan
This was less than two minutes long, but they packed a lot into those two minutes. The finish was awkward, though. *

Justin Gabriel def. Michael Tarver
Gabriel mostly looked good in this very short match, but Tarver is useless. ¾*

Wade Barrett def. David Otunga
Each match is a minute longer than the last, but this one was no more exciting. More interesting than Barrett vs. Otunga was Otunga vs. the wedgie he kept picking. ¾*

Kane def. Heath Slater
This was a fine little showcase for Kane. Slater was in this too, I guess, though he got absolutely no offense. **

No matches over five minutes tonight. Good thing they made room for that keg competition. No need for these guys to get experience wrestling in arena matches on TV.
