WWE ECW 76

November 20, 2007 – Tampa, Florida

Holiday episodes almost always suck. Happy Thanksgiving!

CM Punk def. Kenny Dykstra
Dykstra was really, really not over, so this fell flat. Remember when this dude was the hot prospect that was supposed to be the next big thing? Where did that hype even come from? It came from one match in OVW against Brent Albright but I’d rather question the wrestling world’s judgment. **¼

Shelton Benjamin def. Tommy Dreamer
Benjamin had Elijah Burke in his corner. I’m just glad he was being presented as an ECW wrestler and not a Smackdown guest. Dreamer was a weird call to reheat Benjamin on this brand, but at least Benjamin got to look strong. **

Jesse & Festus def. Deuce & Domino
There are no ECW wrestlers in this match, so Miz and John Morrison sit in on commentary to connect it to this show somehow. Deuce & Domino were boring as hell, but Jesse & Festus tried to bring some buzz. Miz ironically calls Festus sloppy. Someone should have straight up executed him for the hypocrisy. The match was pretty dull. *½

Kevin Thorn def. Nunzio
Thorn cut his hair and spiked it up, and traded in his button down shirt and tie for a singlet. The match was absolutely nothing. Thorn changed his look but not his game, so now he’s just a regular guy with spooky entrance music. N/A

Last week after ECW went off the air, Layla and Kelly Kelly got into a fight backstage. Layla went out to the ramp and ripped on Kelly. Kelly came out and threw a pie (from the Thanksgiving decorations they’d put out) at Layla. That turned into a food fight during which the two of them just stood around and let the other dump food on their heads. The crowd was really quiet during all this.

Kane def. Matt Striker & Big Daddy V {Handicap Match}
The Striker/V alliance was never explained in any kind of satisfying way, and when the two of them cut promos together in their ring gear it gave off a real prison vibe. I apologize in advance for the obvious racial undertones in that statement. This match was mind-bendingly bad. V wasn’t selling anything, and then he just beat up Kane after the match anyway. ¼*
