WWE ECW 75

November 13, 2007 – Wichita, Kansas

Mr. Kenney & MVP def. Matt Hardy & Jeff Hardy
The title situation around the Hardy Boys was really convoluted (Jeff was IC Champ and Matt was tag champs with his frenemy MVP for some reason) and the ring announcer totally botched introducing them. This Smackdown talent exchange business was really watering down the cohesive week-to-week continuity of this show. I don’t have a problem with talent like the Hardys being on the show, but the ECW commentators did a terrible job explaining the storylines mostly because none of them transpired on this show. The finish of this match was gnarly as hell, with Jeff taking a bump to the floor the likes of which you don’t usually see on TV. The rest of the match was solid too, but could have been five minutes shorter. ***

Matt Striker lets us know that Big Daddy V is under the weather so he’s not here tonight. But he’ll be at Survivor Series fighting a bunch of guys who aren’t on the ECW roster. Kane comes out and beats up Striker.

Kelly Kelly & Michelle McCool def. Layla & Melina
This was not incredible, but it was funny to see how much Kelly was concerned with the bikini top she had over her wrestling top sliding around. It also didn’t end with a bodyslam, so there’s that. Of course, Layla teaming with Melina here makes it glaring that they fired Brooke and didn’t address it on TV. *½

CM Punk def. Jamie Noble
Earlier in the show they announced that Punk would defend against Miz and John Morrison at the PPV, but no reason was given as to why he’s defending the belt against two guys he’d already beaten. The PPV challengers were both on commentary for this match and while they got a couple of fun lines in, they mostly talked over themselves and the commentators and were really annoying. The match was technically good, though it was hard to focus on it, and the only real highlight here was Tazz losing his patience with Miz and Morrison on air. Morrison & Miz beat up Punk after the match. ***

And now for a hastily thrown together Survivor Series championship match.

CM Punk def. The Miz & John Morrison {ECW Championship Triple Threat Match}
I guess Miz and Morrison won the tag titles on Smackdown after this episode of ECW. This would have made for a good main event on ECW TV, and as a PPV opener I guess it was pretty neat. Miz can’t keep up with the action that Punk and Morrison are capable of, but other than that these guys did good work. Miscommunication between the tag champs led to Punk pinning Miz. ***
