WWE ECW 42

March 27, 2007 – Grand Rapids, Michigan

Rob Van Dam def. Elijah Burke
I’m already burned out on this matchup. Thankfully, this one was better than their previous two. I’m especially thankful because this was also the longest of their matches, so it could have been brutal. The ECW Originals chase off the New Breed after the match. **¾

Extreme Exposé goes on early tonight. Layla tries and fails to put her leg behind her head and it’s hilarious. Then Kelly Kelly’s hat falls off. I think this was my favorite one yet.

In a backstage segment, CM Punk looks braindead while listening to Edge lecture him and the Hardy Boys. What was going on with him here? Later on, the other team isn’t getting along either.

Snitsky def. Balls Mahoney
Just a squash. N/A

Next up is a debate via satellite between Bobby Lashley and Vince McMahon. It’s smart that this feud centered around these two, as Umaga was never going to be more than he’d been from January to this point, and Trump’s presence was a fine excuse to get Lashley in a big main event. It’s a bit of a shame that they cannibalized this show to get Lashley more over (considering Lashley also peaked here), but you can’t say there was a smarter way to go about all this. Nothing interesting is said in the point-counterpoint segment.

King Booker, Finley, Mr. Kennedy & Randy Orton def. CM Punk, Edge, Matt Hardy & Jeff Hardy
This match was mostly just Punk, the only guy who actually belongs to this brand, getting his ass handed to him. It was fine, just fine, but not nearly as good as the talent involved would have you believe it might be. After the match the Hardys beat up everyone with a ladder and then both climb up and grab a briefcase that’s hanging. Get it? It’s every man for himself. WWE thinks its fans are fucking idiots. **¼

And now, WrestleMania. I was at this show live and remember next to nothing about it outside of the two “real” title matches.

April 1, 2007 – Detroit, Michigan

Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer, Sabu & Sandman def. Marcus Cor Von, Kevin Thorn, Matt Striker & Elijah Burke
Only RVD got any kind of reaction from the crowd, so it’s fortunate that he started the finishing stretch and got the winning pin over Striker. That finishing stretch was fun, the rest of the match was not, but the stretch made up like ⅓ of this short match so there’s not much to complain about here. **¼

As for the other ECW boys that were on this show, Punk failed to win the Money in the Bank match (Kennedy won) and Lashley beat Umaga.
