WWE ECW 166

August 11, 2009 – Edmonton, Alberta

Shelton Benjamin def. Zack Ryder
This was a little ball of energy! Canadians love these guys. Benjamin got the win with a turnbuckle powerbomb and then hits Paydirt at 2:56. There are going to be four matches on this show under three minutes, and if they’re all this fun I’ll be quite happy. **¾

Vladimir Kozlov def. Kevin Brooks
Oops, the streak ended at one match. Kozlov won in 1:08 with the spinebuster. Then Ezekiel Jackson comes out so we can get the reverse of what happened last week. They should just let these two kiss already, because what they’re doing here feels like a prank. N/A

Yoshi Tatsu def. Paul Burchill
Earlier, Burchill knocked out Gregory Helms for refusing to admit he was the Hurricane and calling Burchill stupid. The Bella Twins were guest ring announcers for this match. This was going along nicely until Katie Lea attacked Tatsu and got Burchill disqualified at 2:13. Burchill keeps attacking after the match until the Hurricane makes the save. Why were the Bellas involved in this? *¾

Tyler Reks def. Tom James
Reks won in 1:35 with the springboard dropkick. Nothing else happens. N/A

The Abraham Washington Show is next. He calls Canada and hockey racist, but then wishes Hulk Hogan a happy birthday. You can’t make this up. Christian is his guest. Just like every week, I age 1,000 years watching this thing. Washington reveals that William Regal is the number one contender to Christian’s title, despite having only lost matches on ECW. What a load of shit. Couldn’t they have had him win tonight before making this announcement? Writing a wrestling show shouldn’t be this… stupid.

William Regal def. Tommy Dreamer
Regal wins, what a shock. It’s a bummer they wasted this hot crowd on a bunch of super short matches. Anyway, like the opener this at least had good energy. Both of these guys had their working boots on the last few weeks. Regal got the win with a kneelift at 5:09. Regal locks in the Regal Stretch after the match until Christian makes the save. **¾
