WWE ECW 165

August 4, 2009 – Uniondale, New York

The Abraham Washington show kicks off the episode. He cuts a terrible monologue until Zack Ryder interrupts him. He’s there because this is his hometown, and the audience is too dumb to realize he’s insulting them. Shelton Benjamin comes out too, even though Washington didn’t want him on the show. The jokes continue to be bad, it goes on for an actual eternity, and everyone involved is a heel so what’s even the point of this?

Ezekiel Jackson def. Danny Danger
Jackson won in 35 seconds with the uranage. Cue Vladimir Kozlov, who comes out and hits his finisher on Danger. Then Jackson hits his finisher on Danger again. This isn’t storyline progression. N/A

The Hurricane saves a girl from a truck that’s backing up, and Paul Burchill thinks it’s dumb. How can he tell when there’s so much dumb shit on this show?

Sheamus def. Goldust
What happened in their match the week before that justified this happening again? This was fine I guess, but it was no different than their last match except this time Sheamus won with the Brogue Kick at 4:41. Goldust attacks Sheamus after the match. God help me. **

The Smackdown replay focused on a World Championship match between Jeff Hardy and John Morrison and I really just wish I was watching that instead.

Christian def. Tommy Dreamer {ECW Championship Extreme Rules Match}
After two good matches with no finishes on ECW and Superstars, a crappy match on Raw, and a mediocre match on PPV, they finally brought it all together here. It wasn’t amazing, but it was compelling from start to finish and featured creative use of overplayed weapons. There were even a couple convincing near-falls for Dreamer. Christian got the win at 12:11 (shown) with the Killswitch on a car door (and a pinfall using the weight of the car door). Underrated match here. Not by me, I’m rating it correctly. Dreamer’s best singles match in WWE almost definitely. ***¾
