WWE ECW 132

December 16, 2008 – Baltimore, Maryland

Matt Hardy comes out for a chat. He says he’s having some of the best days of not just his career, but his life, which makes no sense since he jobbed to Vladimir Kozlov at the PPV in an embarrassing non-title match that had to be made such after being advertised as a title match because it didn’t make sense to put the title on Kozlov. I’m sorry for the run on sentence, but it’s mind-numbing. Chavo Guerrero comes out and demands a title shot. General Manager Teddy Long comes out dressed as an elf and confirms that Guerrero can have his match right now. Guerrero seems mad about it for reasons that make no sense either.

Matt Hardy def. Chavo Guerrero {ECW Championship Match}
I guess they had to do something to reheat the champ after bungling his push at the PPV. I’m surprised that the commentators even bring up the PPV match, because it brings up that Kozlov deserves the ECW Championship match that he was given for no reason, but he doesn’t even care enough to ask for it. I have to say, people complain about WWE being worse than ever now, but it’s just not true. It feels true because the modern production feels more lifeless than it did ten years earlier, but the actual plot of the show was just as bad in 2008, if not worse. Anyway, this is a Chavo Guerrero match, so it’s a bore. At least they kept it pretty short. Hardy won with the Twist of Fate without breaking too much of a sweat at 6:14. **¼

Finlay def. Gavin Spears
Hornswoggle stoke the commentators’ Slammy Award before the match, which is good because it’s laughable that those two garbage commentators would win anything. Remember Spears? WWE just did after months of forgetting about him. He got more offense here than I expected, but Finlay didn’t take too long to retake control and hit the Celtic Cross for the win at 3:56. *¾

Mark Henry & Tony Atlas dressed as Santa and a reindeer interrupt a DJ Gabriel dance backstage to recite a poem about killing Hornswoggle.

The Miz, John Morrison & Jack Swagger def. Kofi Kingston, CM Punk & Ricky Ortiz
Miz & Morrison won the Raw tag titles at a house show. This was a fine way to blow six minutes if you’ve got them to spare, but you certainly don’t need any of this in your life. The action never stopped, but nobody did anything mind blowing and Ortiz was the focal point of the thing despite being by far the worst in the ring out of everyone in there. Swagger put Ortiz away in 6:34 with the Swagger Bomb. **¾
