WWE ECW 123

October 14, 2008 – Las Vegas, Nevada

Mark Henry & Tony Atlas come out for a chat. Henry wants another title shot. Teddy Long struts out and says that Henry can be in the running for a Cyber Sunday title shot against two other guys, and the fans will vote on who gets the opportunity. The other two guys will be determined in matches on tonight’s episode.

Evan Bourne def. Chavo Guerrero
This was a little sloppy, but it wasn’t nearly as boring as Guerrero’s typical matches. I was Todd Grisham to stop making Bangkok low blow jokes. They aren’t funny. I’ll go as far as to say it was quite good, with Bourne gutting out a tough comeback after Guerrero was able to, most of the time, block all of Bourne’s highest-impact moves. Bourne won at 9:42 with the Shooting Star Press. Henry attacks Bourne after the bell. ***

The Boogeyman is coming back. Looks like it will be in video package form for a couple of months, and then I won’t have to suffer him in the ring for long after that. Also, Jack Swagger and Tommy Dreamer both ask for ECW Championship matches. Swagger tells Dreamer that he’s been bastardizing his legacy, and that’s hard to argue.

Finlay def. John Morrison
Finlay was really over, week after week. This was surprisingly dull. The crowd was more interested in getting a Johnny Nitro chant over than they were in reacting to the match, but in their defense a ton of the match was spent in a really boring armbar. Mike Knox came out and distracted Finlay during the match, which we know ultimately went nowhere, and then got pulled under the ring by Cryme Tyme (they’d pulled the Miz under the ring too). They passed Finlay the shillelagh, which he used to get the win at 12:40 (shown). Finlay attacked Cryme Tyme after the match because he’s so rascally, and then Henry ran out and attacked Finlay. The post-match stuff was stupid, but at least it wasn’t a total drag like the match itself. *½
