WWE ECW 122

October 7, 2008 – Spokane, Washington

Finlay & Tommy Dreamer def. Mike Knox & Jack Swagger
This is Knox’s swan song on the brand. He was taken off TV for a couple months after this and then moved to Raw in a main event slot. So that’s insane. When that didn’t work they moved him to Smackdown and made him a jobber for a year and then fired him. Finlay’s comeback here was really good, mostly because Spokane was crazy into everything he did. He hit Knox with the shillelagh for the win at 5:49. Dreamer dances with Finlay and Hornswoggle to celebrate Knox being gone for good (mostly). **½

Jamie Noble walks into Teddy Long’s office with a white sack asking for candy. I’m surprised he didn’t walk in with it over his head, wink wink. Mark Henry storms in and throws away Noble’s candy. There’s no way Noble was comfortable with the race ratio in this segment. I’m getting a lot out of watching Henry intimidate the little bastard.

Boogeyman is coming back to ECW, just when things looked like they might be getting a bit better.

Mark Henry def. Jamie Noble
Matt Striker’s moronic comment of the night: “WWE superstars are the only athletes who fight through injuries. We’re always day to day.” I’ll give him a break because it’s almost a certainty that messaging came from the brass. He also does a solid Stone Cold Steve Austin impression after the match, so don’t say I never said anything nice about the guy. Noble went for the knee here, a la Matt Hardy at the PPV, but otherwise got rolled. Henry hit the World’s Strongest Slam for the win at 3:20. He kept hitting the move (how cathartic) until Hardy made the save. Tony Atlas ate a Twist of Fate but Henry caught Hardy with a World’s Strongest Slam and a big splash to win the exchange. *½

CM Punk, Evan Bourne, Ricky Ortiz & Kofi Kingston def. The Miz, John Morrison, Ted Dibiase & Cody Rhodes
Everyone in this match is young, which WWE seems to think is a good reason to book a match even when half of them aren’t on this brand’s roster. I guess Legacy was having a similar feud with Punk & Kingston to Bourne & Ortiz’s against Miz & Morrison. After a match that was all fire and no down time, Morrison pinned Punk with the Moonlight Drive in 7:32 (shown). It took a few distractions from Manu and Dibiase to put the former World Champion down. Fun stuff, even if it seemed to take place outside of this show’s continuity. ***
