Lucha Underground: Ultima Lucha Cuatro, Part 1

October 31, 2018 – Los Angeles, California

We finally get back to the flashback that saw Captain Vasquez as a young Aztec girl in the past. Aerostar the time traveler gave her dying father the magic amulet which made her immortal. They use archival footage to make it look like Aerostar is talking to Vasquez, thanking her for her part in the millenia-long war but telling her that she wasn’t the person to save all of them from evil. She gives him back her half of the amulet so that she can meet her father and daughter in the cosmos. The editing on this wasn’t great, as we see her die by watching a disembodied hand disintegrate. Anyway, Aerostar has the full amulet now.

Daga, Kobra Moon & Jeremiah Snake def. White Rabbit, El Bunny & Paul London and Ivelisse, XO Lishus & Sammy Guevara {Lucha Underground Trios Championship Elimination Match}
Rabbit started the match dominating. Then, the match turned into everyone standing around on the floor so people could hit dives onto the group. London tripped over Bunny and got pinned by Guevara at 4:39. Rabbit put the Mandible Claw on Guevara, causing him to bleed. Guevara spit his blood into Rabbit’s face, but he was out for the night. After a nicely-paced fight, Lishus got taken down by the entire Reptile Tribe and put out with Daga’s armbar at 9:18. This didn’t amount to much, but the final minute was cool. **¼

Taya Mundo def. Ricky Mundo
This was pretty much a squash, with Taya outclassing Ricky at every turn. She won with a curb stomp and an STF at 4:04. After the match, Taya puts Ricky through a conveniently placed table at ringside to end the feud with some symmetry. Then she walks out with his doll. *¾

Son of Havoc def. Killshot {Mask vs. Mask Match}
This was all dives and big moves and no selling at all. The crowd was into it and they pulled out enough gimmicks to make it feel like a big deal, but I would have appreciated any of the action meaning anything within the context of the match. They got fourteen minutes of TV time, which is more than enough to tell a better story. The moves onto the cushioned stretcher also made no sense. Why would that hurt more and not less? Speaking of which, Havoc won by strapping Killshot to the stretcher and hitting the Shooting Star Press for the win at 14:07. After the match, Killshot says that his name is Lieutenant Jermaine “Killshot” Strickland. He’s been trying to erase his identity because he left his brothers for dead. Then he takes off the mask, and he’s Strickland all right. He gives the mask to Havoc. ***

On his way out of the building, Dante Fox (wearing a uniform) approaches Strickland. Fox says he went MIA because he had a mission. Strickland says he’s leaving Lucha Underground and apologizes for everything. He asks to be relieved of duty, and Fox lets him go. I guess that was supposed to be a satisfying end to the character, but Fox’s weirdly high-pitched voice took me out of it.
