Mil Muertes rages about Prince Puma’s return. He doesn’t understand it. Catrina tells him that he’ll have to go through Vampiro to get to Puma. She leaves and is confronted by Jeremiah Crane. He brags about beating the man she loves, only to be told that he misunderstood and that she loves someone else. Fenix maybe?
Sexy Star def. Mariposa
Vampiro reacting to the women brawling to start the match, “That’s good. I hate when people wrestle.” That explains a lot about his career. This was the first time since the No Mas Match that Mariposa looked like the threat she was hyped as before her debut. It was nice to see, and made for a competitive, hard-hitting match. It was short, but Mariposa is clearly not the person putting spiders in Star’s things, so it was good for Star to get through her without too much trouble. Star won at 6:52 with a diving double stomp. Marty Martinez comes out after the match and turns on his sister, hitting her with a chokeslam. That was a surprise to the crowd, but the fact that he came out after the match and not during it telegraphed the heel turn to me. ***¼
Mascarita Sagrada is pumping iron when the Rabbit Tribe comes up on him. Paul London calls him the White Rabbit and they bow to him. Sagrada doesn’t want it. London asks him to join them at ringside. Sagrada calls them crazy.
Drago, Pindar & Vibora def. Mala Suerte, Paul London & Saltador
I guess the rabbits are just meant to be comic relief. Drago is now in Kobra Moon’s thrall. Vampiro says that Pindar starts most of the matches for his team (as he’s doing here) but this is his first match in the company so what the hell is Vampiro talking about? Vibora gets Luchasaurus chants again, so it certainly had staying power. He’s so much bigger than everyone else it’s almost silly. The match was solid. London played a good victim throughout. The pacing got weird at the end, but then Drago nearly killing Saltador with a running Blockbuster at 7:04 for the win was kind of wild. Drago is put back in chains after the match. Fenix and Aerostar run out and save him, but it takes him some time to remember who they are. **¾
Star wishes the Mack good luck in his title match tonight. Mack wants to do it without Stars help, and she’s down to let him do what he wants. Then Dario Cueto comes in and tells Mack that tonight won’t be Mack’s title match at all. It will just be a warm up for the title match, and the winner of it will get to pick the stipulation for said title match. Mack is so much fun in the ring, but he doesn’t have the personality for the cinematic vignettes. He’s very flat. Maybe the bland, friendly babyface is the wrong role for him.
Johnny Mundo def. The Mack
Vampiro’s commentary here is insane. What’s up with him tonight? Even Matt Striker has a problem with the background he’s giving Mack, saying that he’s tough because he’s been hit with police batons and fought over food with homeless people. That’s some GLOW-level deep stereotyping. I wonder how heavily produced the commentators are. As for the match, it’s a solid back-and-forth affair, but there was only one real moment when it felt like Mack was close to winning. The Worldwide Underground comes out and distracts Mack, giving Mundo an opening to hit a low blow for the win at 8:41. That was lame. As Jack Evans & PJ Black beat up Mack after the match, Mundo tells him that he’s going to make the fat Mack wrestle him in an All Night Long Match for the title. That’s clever. The Worldwide Underground finishes Mack off with a triple Curbstomp. **¾
Mil Muertes & Catrina come out and Muertes attacks Vampiro. Prince Puma comes out to make the save, but Vampiro tells him to stay back as he takes the Flatliner.
