Jeremiah Crane def. Dante Fox, Killshot, and Mariposa {Semifinal Match}
The commentators rightly point out that this crew doesn’t really seem like bulls as much as the eight wrestlers who fought in the tournament last week. The first half of the match was built around a chair structure that Crane built and Killshot had to be splattered upon. That didn’t seem safe at all. The rest of the match was solid, but the fact that there was basically no forward momentum in the Killshot vs. Fox feud seemed like a continuity error. Crane hit Fox with the Tiger Driver ‘91 for the win at 10:57. So now Fox is just another guy and not even a cool, deadly version of Killshot. It wasn’t until after the match that Killshot hit Fox with the House Call and a diving double stomp. ***
An injured Taya is still making her Worldwide Underground documentary. PJ Black & Jack Evans are goofing around while being interviewed. Johnny Mundo rolls up and tells his partners that one of them will have to win tonight or they’re out of the group. Elsewhere, Sexy Star broods and trains. She opens her locker and finds a spider inside. Hard to tell if anyone put it there as the Temple is really gross in general.
Drago def. Kobra Moon
Drago was squashing Moon until Pindar ran out and attacked him, drawing a disqualification at 2:41. Fenix & Aerostar comes out to make the save. Moon calls out Vibora, who looks like a giant compared to everyone else. He puts the boots to the Trios Champions and leaves the laying. The reptiles carry Drago to the back. The crowd chanted Luchasaurus at Vibora, so there’s your origin story. N/A
Mariposa runs into Sexy Star backstage and pulls her hair. They have a hallway fight that’s more fun than their entire in-ring feud. Star blames her for putting the spider in her locker and says that she’ll regret starting another war with her. Mariposa reminds her that she loves butterflies, not spiders. Star punches a hole in the wall.
PJ Black def. Jack Evans, Angelico, and Son of Havoc {Semifinal Match}
I wonder why they did this tournament instead of recharging the Gift of the Gods Championship. A lot of this winds up being more of a tag team match, which is fun in a nostalgic way. That I’m nostalgic for a team that didn’t break up that long ago is probably exposes more about my emotional state at the moment than I’d like. They snuck a few wild spots into this one. The finish made Black look like something of a genius, as he tricked all three guys into being where he needed them to be, and then offered to take the fall for Evans only to reverse the pin and take the win at 8:40. Evans screaming, “He teabagged me!” right after made me laugh out loud. They sort of make up after the match. ***¼
El Dragon Azteca visits a convalescing Rey Mysterio and tells him that Matanza Cueto came for him. Now Azteca understands his destiny; he has to end Cueto. Mysterio says that Azteca can’t win. Azteca doesn’t care about winning. Mysterio says this is his battle, not Azteca, but all Azteca cares about is killing Matanza.
