Oooooh sneaky sneaky! NXT UK decided to drop a few never before seen hidden gems on us today. Thank god, I was ready to quit these recaps.
June 16, 2019 – Donington Park, Leicestershire
Andy Shepherd and Vic Joseph handled commentary here. A very vanilla but totally inoffensive team.
Adam Cole def. Zack Gibson
This weird crowd was completely disinterested in Cole, and it hurt the flow of the match. I can’t think of another time that the NXT Champion faced off with an NXT UK Tag Team Champion in a singles match. After a slow few minutes, these guys did what they could to gut out a good bout, but the crowd didn’t care. I cared, I liked it for what it was. I hope they redo it in some form in the States once crowds come back, because with real fans I think it could be quite good. Cole hit the Last Shot for the win at 9:58. The anachronistic commentary predicts there will be a rematch, so that’s cool, but they get a little cute predicting how great Cole’s reign will be. ***
Aiofe Valkyrie has been hanging out in the woods and thinking about her future opponents in the women’s division. This looks beautiful, and makes me hope they’ll use this producer (I forget his name) to film all NXT UK vignettes in the future. Next, the Hunt has been training for the tag division. Gallus gets name checked, so I guess Wolfgang isn’t in that much trouble.
March 6, 2020 – Coventry, West Midlands
Xia Brookside def. Nina Samuels
This one was probably going to air on the go-home show to Takeover: Dublin, but you know what happened there. Nothing much to talk about here, just a low key match between these two. Brookside hit a flying crossbody for the win at 5:17. **
They replay the Mark Andrews attack mystery video. Also, Amale wants to bring a French Revolution to NXT UK. The sound quality on her promo was garbage. Back to boring old superstar picks next week.
July 20, 2019 – Plymouth, Devon
Pete Dunne def. Alexander Wolfe
These fans just weren’t having Wolfe yet. It’s a shame, because it turned out he’s excellent. They didn’t buy for a single second that he could win, so none of his near falls drew any heat. They did what they could, but they were playing to an indifferent crowd. Dunne won at 9:29 with the Bitter End. It’s a shame to see two guys lay into each other and for the folks in the seats to sit on their hands. ***
