October 7, 2021 – Newham, London
Jinny def. Emilia McKenzie
They kept this simple, which is good. McKenzie’s vibe was enough to elevate this basic, hold-focused match from something deathly dull to something completely watchable. Jinny hit a Koppo Kick for the win at 7:30. Why is Jinny being reheated now? Jinny challenges for the title after the match. Meiko Satomura seems to accept. Blah. **¼
Sid Scala tells Blair Davenport that she’s being reinstated next week because of Stevie Turner’s request. They’ll wrestle next week. Later, Flash Morgan Webster slaps Sha Samuels backstage. This is not a good gimmick for Webster.
Sam Gradwell def. Mark Andrews
I hate both of the decisions so far tonight, so I assume Wolfgang will win the main event. What was supposed to hook me into this match? The storyline of Gradwell thinking that Andrews is childish for skateboarding? Who cares? Gradwell is a dead end. Andrews had a fun little comeback near the end here, but then Gradwell hit a Death Valley Bomb out of nowhere for the win at 8:47. Snooze. **¼
Noam Dar def. Wolfgang {Heritage Cup Rules Number One Contender Match}
Uch, there’s so much time left in the show. This is about to be a lot of Wolfgang. Did you know that he’s stronger than Dar? If not, the first round is for you, because all they did was establish that fact. Jordan Devlin ran out to attack Joe Coffey during the second round, and the distraction allowed Dar to roll up Wolfgang to win the first fall at 1:28 of the round. Wolfgang hits a spear to tie things up six seconds into the third round. During the fourth round the commentators mentioned the possibility of a sudden death overtime and my heart sank. The fifth round was actually pretty good, as they cranked up the intensity and went into main event finisher mode. The round ended just as it looked like Wolfgang might win with another spear. There was some nice drama in the sixth round as well. And then two good things happened: the match didn’t go into overtime and Dar won. He hit two Nova Rollers at 2:20 of the final round to wrap things up. The second half of this match was acceptably entertaining. Thank you for that and for having Dar win the tournament. ***
This episode was pretty wack, but next week should be dope and I hear crowds will be returning to NXT UK soon.
