Rampage Brown def. Wolfgang
It’s noted that this is Wolfgang’s first singles match in over two years. I don’t know anyone who was hoping for that streak to end. In fact, Wolfgang is the only person that has had a (non-squash) singles match with Pete Dunne in WWE that I’ve rated under three asterisks. His boring singles match streak is still in good shape, as he spends much of the match holding Brown in a waistlock. Brown kicks him in the head and hits the Doctor Bomb for the win at 6:20. **¼
At the Performance Center, Teoman suggests that Ashton Smith might not be doing enough to protect his partner Oliver Carter. Then, Aiofe Valkyrie is back to doing nature vignettes. Then, Brown confronts Gallus and Joe Coffey says they can fight when Brown is at 100% (it’s later booked for two weeks from now). Later, Nathan Frazer approaches Sha Samuels in the break room and challenges him. Later still, Sam Gradwell demands that Sid Scala give him a match against Trent Seven.
Amale def. Xia Brookside
I’d like to think that I haven’t totally soured on Brookside because of one problematic Instagram story, but I did notice that she did her bubbly corner taunt despite supposedly being super pissed at Amale for taking her out of last week’s gauntlet. Aside from that, this match was perfectly fine. Amale was fired up. She won with a slam at 4:42. What was the point of Brookside’s whole bossing around Nina Samuels shtick from last month? How did that angle help set her up for where she is now? **¼
Ilja Dragunov is a guest on the Supernova Sessions. Noam Dar is turning the set into a spa so that Dragunov can get through his anger issues. Dragunov seems to have trouble doing a segment like this without tripping over his lines. He claims he’s not a rage monster anymore. Dar doesn’t think that’s the case so he gives Dragunov a stuffed therapy dog. Dragunov knows Dar just wants to trigger him, so Dragunov challenges him to a match. I really liked their last match (which was the match they used to relaunch the brand after the hiatus), so this is fine with me. It goes down in two weeks. Dragunov leaves with the dog.
Tyler Bate def. A-Kid {NXT UK Heritage Cup Match}
Round one sees them mostly just feeling each other out. The second round is the same. With six minutes of deliberate hold trading you’d think they were gearing up to have a thirty-minute match. Thing is, there are only 18 minutes of match time in Heritage Cup matches. Bate tries some Saint shenanigans in the third round, but A-Kid punches him in the face to cut that off. They wipe out on the floor as the round ends. They start throwing bombs in the fourth. A-Kid almost puts Bate out with a series of chokes, but Bate hits a brainbuster as the round ends. An exciting fifth round ends with Bate suffering through the Omoplata until the bell rings. He demands that Seven doesn’t throw in the towel in the final round. Both guys go fast as they can trying to get a quick win, and it’s Bate who blocks a Schoolboy and pins A-Kid at 58 seconds of the round to win the Cup. I was iffy during the first two rounds, but the remaining for made this undoubtedly the best use of the stipulation that NXT UK has done yet. This was fantastic. ****
So there are matches booked for two weeks out, but is anything on deck for next week?
