New week, same show. They’re not even doing the full opening video anymore.
July 24, 2019 – Donington Park, Leicestershire
Noam Dar def. Kenny Williams
This match did a lot for Dar, if you ask me. He won by throwing one of Williams’ shoes out of the ring, distracting the referee so that he could hit a low blow and the Nova Roller at 10:13. That made him look smart. He also looked savvy when he caught Williams trying to skin the cat and put him in an anklelock. Williams also looked good here, maneuvering around the ring like a pro and losing mostly because Dar is just a clever bastard. Really productive match here. ***¼

Toni Storm def. Dakota Kai
I am made very happy when one of the first things they show in this episode is a graphic congratulating Storm on winning the Mae Young Classic and a video of her performance in the tournament. The broken timeline stemming from these shows having been taped over the summer is really annoying, so I appreciate these little touches attempting to patch it up. Also, I’m in love with Storm. Also, I hope they record a few backstage promos in post as the road to a UK women’s champion continues. As for this match, the crowd chants “Evolution” during it, which can be taken as appreciation for Storm’s match there by those who watch this long after the fact. Kai still looks kind of unsure of herself in the ring, despite working very tightly. On the other hand they got the crowd psyched for stiff elbow-trading, Storm’s suplexes, and a fun home stretch. I’m a little worried that there’s not much in the way of competition for Storm in the UK. She wins with the Ushigoroshi at 7:17. After the match, Jinny attacks Kai on the ramp. **½
Sam Gradwell wants you to remember who he is. He’s been out with a knee injury for two years. But that’s over, and he’s coming back to NXT UK. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Zack Gibson & James Drake def. Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster {Semifinal Match}
This was for a shot in the first ever NXT UK Tag Team Championship Match at Takeover: Blackpool. The Grizzled Young Veterans beat Flash Mandrews in 8:43 when they hit Webster with the elevated Ticket to Ride. There was a bit too much indie nonsense in this match for my liking, but I can’t say it was boring by any stretch. By the way, when I say there’s indie nonsense here, i don’t just mean flippy moves; what I mean is that there are flippy moves that aren’t particularly well-executed and are too contrived to be believed. In any event, the action was consistent at least and the crowd was really into it. ***
