NXT UK 83

February 13, 2020 – York, North Yorkshire

Aoife Valkyrie def. Amale
Irish names are a trip; Valkryie’s first name is pronounced ee-fa. I’ve seen a few flips of her indie tag team, mostly comedy sketches. Not sure how that translated into a Norse warrior. She looked good, though this squash had some rough moments. Valkyrie won in 3:34 with a diving axe kick. That does not seem safe, but it does look cool. N/A

Travis Banks laments his Worlds Collide loss, but is immediately interrupted by Alexander Wolfe. Wolfe brags about Imperium’s win at that show, but Banks accuses Wolfe of riding WALTER’s coattails. I wonder if this was filmed before Worlds Collide since Banks didn’t bring up that Wolfe got knocked out a couple minutes into his match there.

The pirate-themed WrestleMania ads remind me way too much of El Dorado and also make me wish that Shuji Kondo would be at Mania.

Dave Mastiff def. Saxon Huxley
Mastiff chopped Huxley a bunch here, clearly trying to get WALTER’s attention. This was squishy and Huxley got squished. Mastiff won in 3:06 with Into the Void. I wish they’d use Joseph Conners the same way they use Huxley. N/A

Toni Storm tells NXT UK General Manager Johnny Saint & Sid Scala that she’s accepting the I Quit Match. Scala wants her to think about it, but Storm insists. They give Storm a contract and tell her that Kay Lee Ray has already signed. Storm knows the consequences and signs.

Jack Gibson & James Drake come out for a gab sesh. They’re still sore that they lost the tag titles back in August in a match with three teams, and that their rematch was in a match with four teams and ladders. They prefer NXT General Manager William Regal to Saint because he put them in the Dusty Classic, and he’s billed from the same town as Drake. They rip on York and rip on the Hunt as an afterthought. This went on a bit too long and didn’t pay off with the Hunt doing anything in response.

Conners lets us know that he’s facing Tyler Bate next week. Then he’ll get his face on some of the merchandise. Very curious to see if Bate can get anything interesting out of him.

Joe Coffey def. Amir Jordan
Coffey won this one in 5:00 with All the Best for the Bells after a spirited little effort from Jordan. But yeah, this was basically here to reheat Coffey after his Takeover loss. After the match, Coffey tells Ilja Dragunov that he has a debt due. **¼

Mark Coffey & Wolfgang def. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch
This took a little while to get out of first gear, but then Burch caught fire and the crowd lit up. Gallus won in 10:42 with the kick/powerslam combo on Burch. I was expecting more from this, but it turned out to be nothing more than a serviceable TV main event. After the match, Dragunov comes out to stare at and brawl with Coffey. Mark holding back Wolfgang until Joe got in a big shot was great. Gallus ends the show by destroying Dragunov. ***

This was a weird episode made up almost entirely of set up and being the first majorly inconsequential episode in a while. I did like that beating at the end though.
