Rhea Ripley def. Charlotte Flair & Sasha Banks {Triple Threat Match}
What should have been a big deal of a match felt empty, and frankly pretty sloppy, because (and I know this is the most tired of takes) there’s nothing on the line at Survivor Series in any of the interbrand matches. This PPV is a drag every year. So yeah, the bulk of the match kind of sucked, and mostly relied on 2-in-1-out nonsense. There were a couple of highlights though; it was cool that Banks and Jesus Cross fought at ringside (I like that their feud didn’t go away because of Survivor Series nonsense) and the finish was pretty dope. Flair had Banks in the Figure Eight, so Ripley rushed in and shoved Flair’s shoulders to the mat for the win at 6:50 (shown). **
Bayley called out Shayna Baszler specifically, which later led to a brawl between the two of them that Bayley more or less won.
Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish def. Otis Dozovic, Tucker Knight, Kofi Kingston & Big E
Before this match, the Undisputed Era interrupted Sami Zayn presenting Shinsuke Nakamura with a bland new Intercontinental Championship belt, which led to the two babyface teams coming out to get revenge for UE attacks that they’d been subject to in previous weeks. For all the complaints I have about Raw and Smackdown, commentary included, I have to hand it to Corey Graves and Michael Cole here. Ten years ago, Cole and Matt Striker would be running down all the NXT talents as ungrateful, inexperienced losers. Here, Graves and Cole acknowledge the immense experience that the Undisputed Era has. Like in the last match, the Smackdown team is having trouble staying on the same page, which could be a cool angle at the PPV if they follow through with it. This was a little dull before the break, with the crowd not caring at all about Kingston’s time trapped in the UE corner, but things picked up a bit when Heavy Machinery got involved. Strong pinned Knight with a high knee at 12:08 (shown). Normally I’d be annoyed by a transition move getting the pin here, but it’s kind of in the spirit of classic Survivor Series matches. After the match, Strong, Nakamura, and AJ Styles fight on the ramp. Sami Zayn wiped out Nakamura’s opponents with a chair. ***
I have to note that NXT as a brand as the Undisputed Era more specifically got more of a reaction than anyone from Smackdown or Raw, who were met mostly with silence. The main event six-man tag match consisting of all Smackdown guys got some cheers, but they put on a soild little match so they deserved it. I guess they liked Dozovic too, but who doesn’t? After that main event six-man tag, all three male rostered brawled. I only mention it because it ended with a big showdown between Keith Lee and Braun Strowman that makes me think that if Lee delivers this weekend, he’ll be headed to Raw or Smackdown soon. It’s kind of wild that he went from totally lost in the shuffle for a year on NXT to getting a huge spotlight now.
