205 Live is finally being taped in Full Sail, which brings the cruiserweight division back home to Project H after three years in exile, as far as I’m concerned. We’ll see how long that lasts.
Mansoor def. Brian Kendrick
This was a solid little match, made especially nice because Mansoor is given something to do outside of Saudi Arabia. It wasn’t the most exciting of matches, but Kendrick is a good person to do the job for Mansoor now that the young guy has a little momentum. Mansoor rolled through a power slam and won with a roll up at 6:33. **¾
Next up we get a look at the crazy dope match between Angel Garza and Tony Nese on NXT TV from 2 days earlier. The whole match, actually. Because of the lack of commercial breaks on WWE Network, they could have shown more of the match here than they did on USA, but instead they used the break to push WWE Network content. What’s the point of that? Now we just see the exact same match on two shows that are available on the Network. Why not give us a novel reason to tune into the under-watched 205 Live?
Danny Burch gets a little video package.
Lio Rush def. Raul Mendoza
They make basically no mention of Mendoza’s match against Rush from the week before, focusing much more on Rush’s upcoming match against Garza. This was fast-paced and fun, like all of Mendoza’s matches. It was also short, sadly like all of Mendoza’s matches. Both guys looked agile and quick. I wish there was more for Mendoza to do than lose. Rush won in 5:42 with a swinging Killswitch. ***
So 205 Live seems to now be NXT’s version of Dark. All the NXT branding stays up during the show except the apron (which is fine because the Cruiserweight Championship is an NXT title now), and the ropes stay yellow instead of purple (which is less fine because why not just put in the effort with the purple tape?). The matches are short and sweet and there’s a full NXT match… yeah this is the NXT B-show now. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the programs slow march towards cancellation. Hopefully they’ll continue to fill the slot with NXT content and not nothing.
