NXT UK 52

July 17, 2019 – Donington Park, Leicestershire

Fabrian Aichner & Marcel Barthel def. Saxon Huxley & Tyson T-Bone
Huxley is such a jobber at this point that he can’t even be bothered to stop reading his book during his entrance. It’s as if he couldn’t understand why he was being interrupted. He and T-Bone are so uninteresting that during the match the NXT UK commentators do something that they don’t usually do: talk about other storylines in the promotion. This was longer than I would have let it last (Imperium won with a Doomsday Bomb), and was not a particularly impressive showing from anyone. *½

Travis Banks is a little bit devastated after failing to beat WALTER. He going to hit the reset button. Later, Imperium brags about taking out Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate, and they’re ready to end Trent Seven. WALTER accepts Seven’s challenge. Then, Kenny Williams announces that he’ll be facing Noam Dar next week. Also, Joe Coffey wants to finish off Dave Mastiff.

Jinny def. Xia Brookside
Aiden English is inauthentic garbage on commentary, trying to be a heel and failing miserably by simultaneously talking up the babyface Brookside while being a jerk to his broadcast partner. Pick a lane or get out. The match was kind of a mess, as Brookside was looking hesitant, and the ref-bump/Jazzy Gabert distraction/rollup finish was awful. ¾*

Toni Storm comes out to the ring and says that Kay Lee Ray was her best friend when she first moved to the UK. But she doesn’t want to be friends with someone that attacks people from behind the way KLR attacked Candy Floss last week. KLR replies with more mind games, and then lets Storm know that she’s challenging for the title in Cardiff at Takeover. Sid Scala replies to the possibility that KLR and Storm wouldn’t be in action until then by booking a six woman tag featuring them for next week.

Mark Andrews def. Kassius Ohno
They brought this home with a really nice run, but boy did they ever take their time getting there. That’s pretty much the opposite of your typical Ohno match, wherein it starts promising and then stalls out before the finish. The finish worked really well, as Andrews got a big offensive flurry, followed by Ohno’s aggressive comeback, and wrapped up by an Andrews rollup reversal. ***

Not the best show this week, though they set up a few matches next week that I’m interested in and I’m excited that after next week’s show we’ll finally be done with this lousy Download crowd.
