Keith Lee def. Kona Reeves
Lee debuts new entrance music here and it’s real bad. This was a decent big boy match, as Reeves has cut down on a lot of his bad habits and was able to heel it up nicely against the popular Lee. For his part, Lee stuck to his striking flurries rather than his acrobatics, which is the version of him I like more. **¼
After her match with Shayna Baszler at Takeover, Io Shirai lost it and attacked the champ with weapons. Shirai won’t give commentators the time of day. She and Candice LeRae are going to fight Baszler’s henchwomen next week. Then they show a bunch of Takeover footage with very little new of note, though Tyler Breeze makes it clear he’s back NXT for the foreseeable future.
Mia Yim def. Bianca Belair
While not exactly a Takeover style match, they did give these two a good chunk of time to put this little rivalry to rest in front of a Takeover-ready crowd and the women delivered about as well as can be expected given their spot on the card. This was easily the best match the two have had, as they brought out their big spots and Yim was able to beat Belair cleanly with an avalanche version of her finisher. No hair needed. ***¼
Drew Gulak claims that he could have beaten Kushida last week, and that Biff is the hero rather than Marty McFly. He challenges Kushida to a submission match. That and Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong vs. the BritAm Brawlers will happen next week. Then the show ends with a video of Adam Cole winning the NXT Championship.
