NXT UK 41

May 1, 2019 – Brooklyn, New York

Travis Banks def. Mansoor
This was an enhancement match for Banks, though Mansoor didn’t quite get squashed. Banks hit one of the craziest suicide dives I’ve ever seen in this match, and Mansoor got a nice near-fall. I don’t think you can expect a ton more out of a match this short featuring a guy as inexperienced as Mansoor. **½

Xia Brookside and her finger lasers are working hard to be the best they can be. She’s really playing up that manic pixie dream girl thing. Also, Ilja Dragunov is coming to NXT UK. I hear he’s neat. Finally, Nina Samuels is ready to return to NXT UK, and she’s coming for Toni Storm. No thanks!

Piper Niven def. Reina Gonzalez
Not totally unlike in her weirdly built match against Zelina Vega last week, Niven spent most of this match getting beaten up. At least in this case it was visually believable because Gonzalez is super tall, but Niven is supposed to be this badass and it feels false to see her having such a hard time against such an inexperienced woman. Anyway, the match was alright; definitely better than the Vega match. **

Kenny Williams & Amir Jordan want to take the NXT UK Tag Team Championships from the Grizzled Young Veterans in Williams’ hometown of Glasgow. They’ve beaten the champs by count out, and they’re going to giving Johnny Saint a call (the match will happen next week). Meanwhile, Speaking of Scotland, Gallus is looking forward to fighting on their home turf next week.

WALTER def. Jordan Devlin
This was so much better than I expected it to be. I didn’t doubt the talents of either guy in this match, but the Axxess environment in Red Hook had been such a hindrance to so many matches over the last few weeks that I wasn’t sure the mood these guys would be in for this. Luckily, WALTER”s chop is more over than almost every wrestler on the NXT UK roster, so the crowd got into this. They really beat the snot out of each other here, and WALTER caught a hardway cut on his lip from what looked like a run-of-the-mill elbow. They built an awesome finish around Devlin stubbornly going back to the Devlin Side over and over again. Apparently these two had an unbelievable match in front of a molten crowd in Ireland, and given what they did in about ten minutes in front of otherwise quiet fans I totally believe it. After the match, Pete Dunne comes out and demands a rematch and WALTER agrees to it. ***¾

Wasn’t there a Hunt match that was supposed to happen on this episode? I guess that got scrapped.
