EVOLVE 123

March 15, 2019 – Melrose, Massachusetts

Adrian Jaoude def. Rory Gulak
Gulak was basically just a living heavy bag for Jaoude to kick. This was little more than a squash, but one that was fun enough. *¾

Eddie Kingston & Joe Gacy def. Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford {EVOLVE Tag Team Championship Match}
With the exception of Shane Strickland, the Unwanted are too indy-rific for my taste. Gacy in particular is a cartoon representation of a bush league wrestler who doesn’t seem ready for any stage greater than his home region indies. This match was rather bad. It was sloppy and boring. The spots that got a reaction from the crowd looked really contrived and choreographed (with the exception of one of Ford’s beautiful dives). It also had a cheap finish that saw Strickland interfere, lure Ford to the back, and leave Dawkins alone with the challengers. It was a pretty big bummer of a way for this title reign to end. *½

Velveteen Dream def. Orange Cassidy
Dream’s entrance got the biggest reaction of the night. The match started with a lot of posing and goofiness that became endearing just as it was in danger of becoming annoying. The match that followed entertaining, if a little disjointed. There was a nice stretch where Cassidy was working the ankle, but then they threw that out the window down the home stretch. That was a bit disappointing. ***¼
